Smile Thoughts so far?

In a short/simple answer, I'm curious to know how others are finding the game so far?
What would you add/change?

I've only played a little bit but I've enjoyed it so far, really looking forward to Mondays (it's almost tuesday here lol) patch that will fix it all up.
I guess I'm mostly wanting more dinosaurs (which I'm assuming will be coming in a DLC eventually), maybe wild ones between the bases?

I'd really like to see community mods for this, and maybe a HD texture pack in the future? But I can live without that right now, the game is fun and takes your mind away from such things easily.

More dinosaurs? 3 TRex's appear by wave 3 for me, every single time, in SP (even on easy).

If anything, I'd like the patch to offer more balancing. Or at least stop the 'randoms' (dinos that aren't part of a wave) from strolling into the base all at once, so early in the game.

:P

I enjoy the game, I think it's fun to play and I love the jet pack but I was playing recon last night and that's a nice class to use too so I might try each class out for a while and find one I really like, but parting with my jet pack is going to be hard

I'd like to see more dinosaurs and someone else mentioned an inside arena with only spotlights, I think that's a great suggestion.

Well we know there's more Dinosaurs coming. There are six more dinosaurs planned to come out before the end of this summer.

I'm waiting to see this first patch before I share my complete thoughts on the game.

In solo I can get the furthest with the recon by cloaking in/out, make sure you manually uncloak before firing or you will have to wait a while before you can cloak again.

Agree'd, I've reserved most of my thoughts, few bugs I want to complain about but I'll wait till patching is complete before that.
I hope they stick with it though and keep adding to the game, it could easily become bigger than games like killing floor ect ect if they play their cards right.

This initial release would have hurt them though, probably a fair few bad reviews

Even without bugs this game would have serious design flaws. I managed to finally buy a VTOL today and basically became invulnerable. Nothing can touch you, even the flying ones are easily kited by moving backward. I managed to get the credits for the VTOL just sitting in a building, it's pretty much impossible for anything to get you as raptors are no real threat.

It's like the devs couldn't figure out how to make the AI challenging so just gave everything ridiculous hitpoints.

Yeah, the game in general is just so fundamentally flawed that I don't know if any amount of patching could fix it. The AI can't handle basic pathfinding, the enemies are all pitiful and they all have massive health bloat to make up for it, there's no real variety to anything in the game at all, it uses a lot of the default UDK stuff...

Basically, it feels like they took UDK, threw some maps together without putting any real thought into them, tossed in a few enemies and then hoped that'd be enough to make for a hit. Well, that and throwing together a trailer and throwing out a bunch of feature claims that are pretty much entirely false (advanced dinosaur AI my , the pterodactyls are worse than Morrowind's cliffracers and the rest can't find their way around a rock the size of the Eiffel Tower).

Thanks for the tip and I'm all out of rep so you'll have to wait until I can give some more out

It's an indie game for a reason, we all start somewhere.

Yeah, That's my only real issue is the way they've turned everything into a bullet sponge apart from the raptors.
It takes allot of the teamwork out of it and makes it an 'everyone shot till it dies' game...

I'm mostly hanging out for the DLC that introduces the 6 new variants, I'm really hoping that they require more strategy and scheming to get past/kill them.
For example, the triceratops could be *mostly* immune to bullets from the front since it has a huge bone frill around it's neck!
Also an armored armadillo type that would have vague weaknesses, and a tail sweep attack where a correctly timed jump would be required to not get killed (or thrown a few miles away?)

I guess I have so many ideas in my head for games like these, pity I can't mod for crap lol

Yep! I love all the indie developments as of late, I also bought the indie game 'Ravaged' a little while ago, really hanging for the beta to start!

The most realistic suggestions yet, I'm sure both will be fixed in patches over time, or at least the server filters

Absolutely not an excuse. There are free shooters with more effort put into them and a higher level of quality than Orion. There are MODS with more effort put into them and a higher level of quality than Orion.

The fact that it's an indie game doesn't excuse them from trying to make it a good one, and thinking like that really seems a little insulting for indie developers who actually do work hard on the products they release.

Recon is really fun to play with after you get the hang of it. Makes you feel more like a hunter than the hunted..

^^ I have no clue what you're talking about. This game is the most fun I've had since Skyrim.

thoughts?
I brought a 4pack, now 3 of us can't even get pass the title screen
create game->crash
solo game->crash
join server->crash
WTF?

and what I heard from the remaining 1 who can play ain't pretty too
his character/vehicle dies randomly, FOV changes when switching weapons, crash after hitting save and exit in option menu, can't create server again after exiting a solo game, hell even the .exe's title reads "unread SDK (DX9 32bit)"

Wtf indeed.

What annoys me is the monday patch promise. I couldn't care less about circumstances which mean they have to wait for Epic to get in on tuesday morning. If they still need one thing fixed, that means it isn't finished on monday as promised, no matter how much it is sugarcoated.

And comments from the devs like 'You'll be fragging dinos soon' make it worse. Soon, what's soon? In 5 minutes? In a fortnight?

An honest approach is all I'm looking for. Something along the lines of 'we will try our hardest to get it out on monday, but no promises'. As opposed to 'it's coming on monday'.

What a way to run a business.

PS - Here comes the white knights to oppose this post of mine.
