There is already a grouping feature that has been added to the friends list.

A customizable alias function would be amazing though. It's very frustrating when friends like to change their name constantly and you never know who they are.

a minor thing, could you add 'stop the blinking in the task bar lasting forever'?
Someone sends you a chat message and it won't stop blinking until you click it :C
Most other IM things will blink only a few times than stay highlighted.

FRIENDS REAL NAMES!!!

When I am looking at my friends list for Steam, I look to see who is online, then I ask myself, do I know this person, then I send them a message...

Me: "Do I know you?"

Them: "Do I know you?"

Me: "I guess not!"

Then I close the message window and maybe a couple of weeks later, I will get a message from them, asking if they know me...

Now, me as a gamer, I keep the same avatar name as I have had for years... But half of the people I know use a different name of everything that they do, so for WoW they will have BigCowGuy, and then for SC2 they will have KoreanProtosser, and then for D3 they are Hulk! Then on Steam they are Dudley...

I am really tired of adding people to my Steam list, because I don't know who any of them are... My username for steam is easy... First "Avatar" Last...

Why everyone can not keep it simple, I do not know. But it is a real annoyance.

Hopefully we can do something other than "Right click username, and "Tag As" having 100+ Tags is just annoying!

I'd love for a search function where if you were to have a various number of friends in your list, say for example the current limit of 250. You could search keywords, their username, profile name, account number or even email address.

That would make for a quick and precise search, but I highly agree to the ability to change their names in your own friends list for many reasons all of which have been talked about in this and other threads.
