2 things missing!
first thing we need to see: orbital station, defensive turrets and weaponry linked to attacked system.
When ennemy fleet is approaching our systems, we might be able to protect or to block its course with defensive assets, not only defensive fleets... Second point : Pirates musn't be everywhere, they need to have a base station they come from. ATM Pirate are generated randomly, and pop everywhere whith no reason. Is Pirate spawn influenced by our inhabitants' mood? sry for my bad english. |

Orbitial Defense Platforms is one way to go, but I think Planetary Defenses would be a better fit, if only because a lot of game already have the former, but almost none have the latter.
Yeah, Pirates - Pain in the butt. Especially when you're at War and you're Auxiliary Fleets are comprised of badly damaged Guardians and Reapers, and a handful of Engineering Repair vessels.

Pirates only spawn in neutral systems, and at least early on can't traverse wormholes. It's very easy (and probably recommended) to quickly expand and fill up your constellation (everything connected to your starting system by a string and not a wormhole). Later on if neutral constellations are left alone pirates will start to claim systems in them, but I find this rarely happens because the other empires rush to claim as much as possible which pretty much removes pirates from the game.
Stations would be cool, as long as for example you could only build one per system and there was some variety. Like research stations that add research bonuses, colony stations that add extra population, and defense stations filled with weapons. |
