Hi ladies and gents.
I have been recentley playing the Darkspore Demo and have enjoyed it very much but... I am not bothered about MP (in any game) and as the game has a requirement to stay connected to the net even when playing the 'dumbed down' Sp game, I am reluctant to purchase it because the servers could be pulled at EA's discretion and that is just bad practice, let alone totally unnecessary for me who only plays SP. Yes the server connection is required even for SP, to save all player game-data etc. I'm new to this genre so I thought I needed a little help here please. Are there any games similar to Darkspore even if they do have MP, that at least have a decent SP game without the silly EA connection restrictions? Thanks. |

Darkspore is a diablo clone (hack and slash) so you should look at games like: Torchlight, Diablo2 (and D3),Titan Quest (one of the best),Sacred , etc. The creation part is from Spore (EA).

I was kinda looking forward for Darkspore, mainly because its unique thematic (there aren't many RPGs outside the magical fantasy formula), but its negatives outrank its positives for me...
About the others Diablo-clones, or ARPGs, here the ones I recommend: -Torchlight: made by the designers of Diablo I and II and Fate. Its single-player only, and got a extensive mod support. ==You can get a free copy of Torchlight by pre-ordering Torchlight II, which adds multiplayer, LAN support and more Mod options. -Titan Quest: Greek Mythology and no classes at all. You can choose how to manange your skill trees, and mix abilites and powers. The expansion, Immortal Throne, adds tons of stuff. ==The original developers also got their new game funded by Kickstarter, Grim Dawn, which follow the same steps. -There also Path of Exile, which is currently in beta, and will be released as a Free-to-play model. The stuff that can be bought is just cosmetic, as far as I aware. -And then there is Diablo III on 15 May. And like Darkspore, it has to be connected all times. If thats a big deal for you, I suggest you skip it. |

You could say the same thing about Steam. It has the same requirements as Darkspore ie you need to be connected to Steam servers to play even a single player game. EA is actually a larger company. I am not sure which one is more solvent. Why would you be more comfortable with a Steam game then an EA is the question.

Would it be just silly of me to ask that replies are based on my post here and not turned into yet another 'debate'? If you want a debate on something please start your own topic. Thankyou. |

Spiral Knights, though it's an MMO, has the same gameplay.
