Map View-(9)

I have started to use map view (9)as I try out more shunting and consist drop-offs. Is it me or does the 2D map have to be dragged from the starting point to where your train actually is in the scenario? I had to cover some 20 miles of track to find my loco and train in the last one I tried. Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance.

There is an icon in the upper right that looks like a computer monitor. It's blue by default, just click on it, it will turn red and follow your locomotive! Click again, back to the normal awful 2D map.
