Question Weird mini slow downs.

I was wondering if anyone else saw these while playing the game. I downloaded and booted up the demo and just every few seconds there were these weird slow downs, they were way too smooth to be a drop in fps. But I'm wondering what they actually were in respects to the game. If it's part of the gameplay I gotta say I really don't like it.

I think I have them too and was assuming it might be because of insufficient performance of my grafx card (GTX 550 Ti) - I will find out soon when I plug in my new GTX 680 - this one should definitely have plenty of performance reserves...

Secondly I was thinking that it could have been because of multi-player network spikes but as you play the demo this is single player - so not likely to be the problem.

If the demo isn't of the same patch level as the regular game (patch 1.05 or less) then it will probably just be the 'micro-stuttering' problem that the game initially had, which got fixed in I think patch 1.06 or 1.07.

If it's bothering you, try forcing vsync in the nVidia control panel or if you have Fraps or Bandicam or something I was told that recording actually makes the stuttering go away.

I started the demo again to see if there was a version #, couldn't find it there or in the folder so not sure if there's a way to tell. But assuming it is the original version, that's odd that they released that as the demo after the patches are out for the full game. Not really assuring someone to buy the game in the least lol.

OK, the remaining issue I have is not the same as the micro-stuttering because I have the latest patch and I can definitely see that the micro-stuttering as seen before is gone.

It's different and more difficult to describe than the micro-stuttering as it is very smooth in general but sometimes slows down and then is smooth again. Thus I was thinking of some network lagging - probably even related to sudden disconnects we can still see sometimes (actually less than before the latest patch).

I wonder if patch 1.09 is already ready today or if it is going to take another couple of weeks as the expectations to that one are high as BugbearGames said that they will put quite some efforts into that and have identified and fixed multiple issues related to multi-player.

I don't know the demo but usually when you start the game the first thing that comes up is the display config dialog and there you can see the version in the title bar.

This is what I'm seeing, a weird smooth slow down that keeps reoccurring.

also thanks yeah I checked the config, it's version 1.07.

Latest is 1.08 but I'm pretty sure that micro-stuttering was fixed already in 1.07 - fixes in 1.08 are rather invisible (specific crashes and connection problems) - see patch posts from Fred (fredizzimo)

I tried again with latest patch 1.09 today and I still have this kind of slow downs. Running Bandicam it showed that sometimes the frame rate drops down from constantly 60 to 35 and goes back to 60. So this could indeed be due to lack of grafx power. Will see if it goes away when I plug in the GTX 680.

I've got the same problem with the demo here. Its like 1 second of slow motion and I doubt its graphics card power problem cause it seem to be a regular occurance.

I've had the same problem - and have had since the games initial release. It's definitely not micro-stutter, but a sudden, big FPS slow down and then a return to regular speed.

I've got SLI-460's, so I don't think it's GPU power. Not sure if it's a driver or game issue.

The latest release supposedly got rid of some debris stuttering, so that's good, but these large drops in FPS are killer in a race, especially if they happen while you're going around a curve!

SLI-systems do have a problem with the game that can be fixed by forcing Alternate Frame Rendering mode 2 on the game (it should fix the 'bullet time' lag you're experiencing, as I have an SLI-8800GT setup in my laptop and doing this fixed the lag on that.)

Apart from that I don't know. Try forcing vsync? not sure.

between this, the no gamma correction and only supporting xbox joysticks (wtf??) I'm going to give this game a pass.
On the other hand I hear the guys that made carmageddon are doing a kick starter for a modernized version of it.

I had the problem when I tried the demo.
I remember that the slowdowns are because sometimes the game limit the frames per second to 40.
Not sure but maybe when you cant get 60fps (or near 60) the game limit your fps to 40 during a while.

I just built in a new nVidia Geforce GTX 680 and it seems this problem is gone. Before I had "only" a Geforce GTX 550 Ti and it seems this was not enough to keep stable at 60 fps.
Now with the GTX 680 it stays stable at 60 fps whatever action is on the screen.
Thus my conclusion is that this game requires more Grafx power than probably expected - of course it might also be driver related but in my case it is both nVidia and nVidia usually has good drivers so it's pretty clear to me.

Btw the slider about Grafx Anisotrophy on the start screen didn't change anything so it's not usable to reduce Grafx requirements. It probably only allows to use Grafx cards with less memory (less than 1 GB) due to smaller texture resolution used.
