It's not caused by any video driver.
Start the game and when in main menu press CTRL+~ The console should appear. Write: _version Press enter. Now read what version of the game you have. If you have 1.23 or lower, the game is incorrectly updated. If you have 1.24 and you still suffer from crashes - send me the crash.dmp , crash.txt (you will find them in: the disk and folder where you installed STEAM\Steam\steamapps\common\hardreset) file and your dxdiag file to hardreset-support@flyingwildhog.com I just re-checked the checkpoints and the game runs fine on all 3 PCs at my home. Both ATI Radeon and Nvidia GeForce. |

I wish the game didn't blur out (and pause) when auto saving. This process should be seamless. Even better would be an option to eliminate auto saving and have manual saves.

I would buy if it had manual save. I liked everything else (though the blur sucks)in the demo. I don't really need any new games so I can afford to be picky. Those that at least have a manual save if not QS are the ones I choose patronize these days. It's just the way I prefer to play.

They could just implement quick saves and keep the checkpoints, for those that enjoy the added challenge.
(I don't think eliminating checkpoints altogether is a good idea.) Other games have done this and it works out fine. Having the upgrade stations double as save stations also sounds like a cool idea. |

It seems the subject of manual saves is destined to crop up on every thread on the Hard Reset forum.
![]() To be fair to the devs, and I think those diehards saying quicksaves would ruin the game, Hard Reset did have a quicksave function for a while. You just had to enable it in the console. The problem was - if I understand correctly - was that it messed with AI routines or something. I think I might have seen some evidence of this. On Level One, just after the first checkpoint, there's a destructible garage with a gorilla and some peckers inside. But if you go to the next checkpoint without opening the garage, and then double back, the garage is empty. Perhaps manual saves would mean more of this sort of thing happening? |

Oh it's not about eliminating checkpoints. They are a nice backup to a QS.
Unlike the selfish checkpoint only crowd we aren't interested in forcing then to play our play style. Options are always nice.Yeah I've heard about the AI breaking. If a save can mess up an AI though, then the AI was badly coded. |

Not trying to harp on a dead horse, but if there was ever game that doesn't need quick saves, then Hard Reset is that game.
You rarely go more than a minute or two without it autosaving. Set piece, autosave, set piece, autosave, set piece autosave, welcome to Hard Reset. Secrets are not difficult to find and the game is linear, there are no multiple paths through levels. I really think that if you just play the game and experience the autosaves for yourself, then you will not have any complaints even if you are diehard anal retentive about saves. Unless you are overly obsessive compulsive to where you routinely visit a doctor and are on prescription medication for that reason, then you will not be disappointed. If this is the only reason you haven't played this, then you are only robbing yourself of a good time. And I really do mean to emphasize that the autosaves are close together. Step outside your box and try something different, then come back here when you finish the game and thank me for pushing you to just play it. |

^I wouldn't put it quite like this, but...^ the guy has a point. My aversion to checkpoints stems from trying (and failing) to get through games like Far Cry. To begin with I was frustrated by the lack of manual saves in Hard Reset, but after a while I found myself enjoying the game enough not to care overmuch. Yes, there were times, even on my second playthorugh in EX mode, when I would think, "Agh, I wish I could save here!" but that was on Insane difficulty. I'm not a particularly good gamer, so if I can get through this game on Normal I'd say pretty much anyone can. It's not really been mentioned on this forum, but a few of the set-pieces have what I call a coward's option. You don't have to run around all guns blazing. There are safe havens where you can retreat and take stock, snipe the enemy with your Smartgun. The level design is very good.
So, if the lack of manual saves is the only thing stopping you from buying this game, I'd urge you to put your quibbles aside. It really is a fantastic and enjoyable first-person shooter. |

Appears the demo is a very old unpatched version of the game. FYI.
