Did I miss FlatOut?

In the past I missed FlatOut, but since I loved Rally trophy and now I’m addicted to RRU I wonder if I missed something.

Should I purchase it now? What should I purchase:
  • FlatOut 2 for $10
  • UC for $20
  • Both for $30
  • All of them (1+2+UC+3) for $40
  • Maybe Should I purchase none of them or Something else?
Thanks for your advice.

I absolutely love the FlatOut games (FO:UC not so much though), but I don't like RRU, so my taste might be different than yours.

I found Rally Trophy to have a bit too hardcore driving model, but it's been years since I last played it and I didn't play it much anyway.
The first Flat Out's driving model reminds me of Rally Trophy's, but a bit more "forgiving"; very satisfying though; also you need to avoid damaging the car too much as it will lose performance, grip, stability etc. (which I like).

Flat Out 2 is more "arcadey", but still very enjoyable. It puts more emphasis on hitting the other cars for satisfying bonuses.

Both FO1 and FO2 are outstanding for different reasons: I love the first when I want to enjoy tough driving; professional handling option + manual shift and hood view (snow races are amazing) with minor (and more "tactical") car fighting. I play the second for the more mayhem-oriented approach.

Both games play extremely well with the keyboard.

FO:UC is some sort of FO2 reboot converted from console, and has some different game modes but they did something to the driving model which prevented me to enjoy it fully.
I still play FO1 & FO2 from time to time, while I only played FO:UC once.

RRU feels almost nothing like Flatout games, IMHO.

Hope this helps

If you really want to try the flatout franchise made by Bugbear you should choose between Fo2 and UC.
They are basically the same games so it's nu use to buy them both.
UC is the more polished version of Flatout 2 and has more eye candy but Flatout 2 still has a stronger online community.
Most flatout 2 owners did not buy UC because they didn't want to pay for what's really a polished up expansion of Flatout 2 and that's why the online community is smaller of UC.

Flatout 3 should be avoided at all costs, even if it's a free add in a package you'd better not download it. It really destroyed the franchise with a horrible low budget piece of crap.

My advice in this would be just flatout 2 to get the feeling of what this franchise was and UC if you want a more polished version with some extra game modes.

Being an eyecandy fan, I'd recommend FO:UC over all others.

IMHO, FO:UC is the best FO game. Get that one. Ignore the rest.

FO: UC compared to FO2 has some additional cars ,game modes, and races in single player have more AI racers(or at least in Career mode they do, because there are new AI drivers and they use the new cars)

If I were to recommend anything, it would be 1 and UC. 2 and UC are mostly the same, UC just has a bit more content(cars, AI drivers, game modes) and is a bit more polished. The only things that arent improvements are the soundtrack and online community. The former is simply different, so it's a matter of taste. The latter is not as big as FO2's online community so there's less action going on there. Also FO2 has mods(or at least a lot more than UC, last time I checked UC had no real mods)

FO1 is a good game, though it's a bit more (IMO) difficult and crashing into everything there is on screen is not always a good idea. Hitting other cars is more realistic, or at least it seems to be, because crashing into someone's car has consequences for both sides most of time.

3 is just bad, it's not even worth checking out for the sake of 'beating' the entire series. You could even say it's not part of the series.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I really enjoined reading them all!

I purchased FO:UC then the next day I purchased FO1.

FO:UC feels like outdated game but I'll give it another try.

FO1 is an immortal game! It made me 10 years younger and I couldn't stop playing it till I almost finished it.

It reminds me the days I played racing games on the good old PlayStation.

It so cool to play the old good games on "Super computers" for their days.

Now I really want to see also Rally Trophy again in HD on Steam!!!

Hello Ridge Racer, Glad you like FO1 as much as the community @ FlatOutJoint. When you finish the game you might want to read this thread. What's up with FlatOut 1?

If I loved and finished FO:UC is there any reason to purchase also FO:2?

Does FO:2 included in FO:UC completely or can I found something interesting in FO:2 that justify purchasing it in addition to FO:UC?

I should probably try and actually FINISH FO:UC on xbox before I even attempt that lol.

I'm so bad at this game. Mostly because the player car has such unresponsive handling (deliberately, of course...) -_-
