just wanted to say thanks again. Don't know why but did a windows reinstall recently and these files weren't there. Checked a bit ago and they still weren't. Suddenly today I got the compatability mode error so I checked and there they were.

deleted, fixed, and running fast again. Have you contacted Valve about this? Seems strange but thanks for posting the info in OP.

I only have "Store" folder
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility Assistant\Store

and this key name "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" and something like "steam service"

I deleted both of them, but it came up again after I restarted steam...
although the restart took mush less time than before.

using Windows 8 64bit, with OCZ SSD.

Windows 8 is a Beta OS at the moment. If you don't have the folders in my first post, then you shouldn't have any compatibility settings applied, but you could try closing Steam first and deleting them again.

This isn't the right place to post, but try deleting ClientRegistry.blob in your Steam folder. If that doesn't work, contact Steam Support.

I've revamped "NB:" and "More info about the issue:" so they're much clearer. I've also added important information about the compatibility settings: Steam only sometimes warns for for settings applied to Steam.exe and not the Overlay or Service.
