Wow, looks like I dodged a bullet (maybe)... I didn't read through the whole thing and I never got to the "animate wheatley" page. I wasn't even aware it was contacting an external webpage for any of that stuff. That'll be the last time I 'buy' something like that.

Just yesterday I went onto Final Hours of Portal 2. If I just launch it and read through stuff without clicking and interacting, is my computer safe? I ran a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes and it came up with no malware detected, so I feel kinda safe. Anything else I should do to scan my computer?

I dont understand, does the game run off this sever? (I dont think so but just want to be sure) Or is this just some funky software someone made and that software got hacked?

Thanks for the heads up. I ran a full scan with MSE 5 days ago and it didn't find anything. I just started a full scan now and it found some malware within the first 10 minutes. Seriously annoying, but hopefully it's nothing too serious. I'll post again when my scan finishes.

Yea, I reported this to Steam Support, and after a little back and forth, I finally asked them to elevate the ticket. What the code is doing is sending you to a black hole (I believe that is the term) that just starts downloading malware to your PC. I'm not going to post the actual link (because someone will click it) but the black hole server is well known for this activity. I am glad someone else could confirm this.

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Your anti-virus software is falsely detecting a virus in the game.

You will need to wait for an update to the anti-virus software before you can use it and the game at the same time.

You may be able to create an exception for the game so you do not have to disable your anti-virus to play.

I wounder if I will get a "sorry we screwed up" response =)

It's still as safe as going to any hyperlinked website. Just happened that the website in question that was hyperlinked was hacked. That's all. You're fine as long as you didn't interact with any of the external sites outside of the thing. The fact that Valve actually turned it off is a sign that at least they care.

So I'm judging by the post that the game is fine? its just some funky website thats hacked?
