Hi. Sorry if this has been up before.

I'm having a problem with the game suddenly reloading my last save game, and in the process I lose all my progress. There's no error message or anything, I just suddenly get the introductory message describing my leader/civilization, and the loading starts.

The last time it happened, I was taking a Steam screenshot by pressing F12. Maybe it's Steam-related, I don't know. The game is a bit sluggish too, since I've uncovered all of the map and have a zillion cities and units. Seems to me this game could use some performance tuning.

This is quite frustrating. I'll try lowering the settings a bit and see if it helps, but if anyone's got a good suggestion I'll gladly listen.

Cheers.

Edit: Yeah, it happens when pressing F12 alright, but not earlier in the game. B-U-G.

Just attempted to reinstall after having not played it for quite a while.
I am getting a Connection Timed Out error message. Install is perpetually at 98%.

Who is supposed to be fixing this?

Add these two tips to the OP please:

Q: I have very high cpu/gpu usage in-game in windowed mode and want to multitask while people take their very long turns.
A: Enable strategic view/press F10 (zooming in helps a tiny bit more too)

Q: Help, my graphics card is overheating when I play civ / this is happening!
A: Enable vsync in the options, this applies to windowed mode too.

About the cpu usage though:
I did some experimenting and got my friend to help me and found some interesting things.
What I found is that Civ5 seems to use an arbitrary % of your CPU time to do something presumably graphics related (as usage goes down when you zoom in, although it's still high without enabling strategic view) while idle.

To conduct this experiment, I asked my friend who has a much lower-spec PC what his cpu usage looked like in-game while nothing was going on. I then asked what his settings were and switched to them myself to test; the results were quite surprising.

My PC:
Intel Core i7-2600K (3.4GHz, quad-core, HT)
8GB DDR3
AMD Radeon HD6950 2GB
His PC:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2GHz, dual-core)
2GB DDR2
nVidia 9500GT

Graphics settings:
DirectX9 mode
Screen resolution: 1366x768 (windowed)
AA: Off
VSync: On
All options on medium except for leader scene quality and texture quality which are set to low.

Setting:
Standard map size, 1 player, 5 AI, default city states, 100 turns in
Mid-turn, no activity on-screen, camera stationary and zoomed out

Results:
My cpu usage: 15-25%
His cpu usage: 25-35%

This was only a very rough experiment, but the quite-frankly tiny difference in cpu usage is absurd. To get a rough idea of the performance difference between the two processors, the i7-2600K scores 9100 on passmark while the Athlon 64 X2 scores 1147, and is barely above the minimum requirements for the game. You'd expect something that uses 30% of a rather dated processor to use a trivial amount of cpu time on a recent, high-end processor, but apparently not in Civ5's case.

It's not too much of a bother now that I worked out I can just hit strategic view and the usage drops dramatically (allowing me to multitask), but I definitely wouldn't mind a reduction in the heat and noise caused by civ5, as well as steam using a whole 13% itself, starting the second I enter a multiplayer lobby or game.

Maybe they'll improve it in the expansion, and maybe just maybe put an fps cap on the menu for people who aren't using vsync.

I just bought the game yesterday (finally). Now I can't play it for more than a few turns. Basically, I take a turn or two, then all of a sudden I can no longer click anything in the game window. The music still plays, the map is still animated (water shimmers, units move naturally, birds fly), and my mouse still moves around and uses the Civ V pointer, but I can no longer click any buttons, units, cities, or anything else. Escape does nothing. I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete and end the task in order to do anything, since I can't even get my start menu to pop up with Alt-Tab or the Windows key.

My specs, if they matter:
Phenom II x4 840
8GB DDR3 1600
1GB 256-bit GTX 460
Win7 64-bit

P.S. I'm going to try to run it without FRAPS, but I don't think FRAPS is the issue. I'll post here if that WAS the issue.

EDIT: I turned off FRAPS and now it works fine. I don't suppose I can ask here if there is a solution that would let me actually use FRAPS in-game, is there?

I have looked through these forums but i can't seem to find any one with the same issue i have. I can play the game just fine but when it comes to load a game either from the main menu or from the in game menu i get a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error. I have re-installed the game, dx11, Microsoft visual both 2008 and 2010, verifed my cache and re-installed my Gfx driver and none of this has seemed to help. Below is a copy of my error report and below that system specs.

Sorry if this is a known issue, but I only solution I saw posted was to disable xfire, which I don't have installed.

Basically SOMETIMES the GUI gets REALLY flickery.
It'll always happen, but sometimes not for a few turns (I don't know if it's turn dependent or time dependent).

My specs:
Windows 7 x64
16GB RAM
AMD 69702GB
i7 2600k

I'm using the Catalyst 12.4 beta drivers (as these are newer than the official release), I suspect it's something to do with my drivers but I'm not 110% positive, figured I would post here first to see if anyone is familiar with the problem.

Just recently started having trouble with Civ V. No problems before, I didn't install anything new except some Windows automatic updates, and suddenly when I launch it, it says it's launching it, and then... nothing. I go to the Task Manager, and the CivilizationV.exe and Launcher.exe processes are running, and my Steam Friends list says I'm playing Civilization V, but nothing actually comes up.

I can even run another Steam game, like Batman: Arkham City, with the CivilizationV.exe process running, and it doesn't affect the performance at all. I've reinstalled Civ V, and verified the integrity of the game cache multiple times, with any number of restarts, and nothing has helped. All other Steam programs run without a problem. Any other ideas?

My friend and I have constantly had our multiplayer save files become corrupted or cause crashes when we try to load them. Starting over all the time is getting annoying. Can anyone give some insight into this issue? I can't find anything on the main posts

I own all of the DLC except for the Wonders one. All of the civilizations work fine, but I can't choose any of the DLC map types.

Any advice?

EDIT: They map types actually show up when I go to setup a game with mods... Is that how it's supposed to be? Seriously?

1. Go to

“My Documents\My Games\Sid Meiers Civilization 5\”

and open usersettings.ini in Notepad. About 15 lines down you will find “SkipIntroVideo = 0″. Make this value 1. This will skip the intro video and you will be directly enter to the game menu. Again, make sure that you have the latest drivers and you reboot the PC after driver install and editing the ini file.
--------
If i do this it doesnt SKIP the intro, it just plays it with a black scree and no sound, leasts that's what i think.

i got the steam (GOTY) version + 2 latest DLCs.
on "verifying game cache" always 1 file is missing. downloading, installing and on next reboot is missing again.
i have uninstalled/reinstalled the whole game via steam, but the same thing continues: 1 file always missing...

my (new) games crashes after hours of playing (last night it crashes on turn 180, small vanilla map, 4 cities)
after the crash, i can load (via autosaves) the game and continue...
have all updates for windows 7 x64 and HD6850 VGA, sound, Mobo etc. DXdiag gives me no errors. and i can play all my other games with no problems.

my event viewer log is this:

I've been having this multiplayer issue for some time now. recent reports suggested the update might have fixed it but it still happens:

When playing a multiplayer game, the game will proceed normally until I place a third city. Once the city is placed, the game fails to sync/progress. Chat works fine but the game hangs and won't complete a turn.

If someone drops from the game, the turn completes but then hanga on completing any subsequent turns.

Thoughts?

Finally let steam log in to update my copy of Civ V

However, for some reason I no longer have access to DX10 mode. Help?

Ok, thanks to a thread I saw on the official forums, I've got a working fix for my blackscreen at game loading issue now.

Go into your "\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V" folder and DELETE all 5 "Civ5_Opening_Movie" files that are listed there. You have to do this even if you've got Skip Intro Video enabled in game or via the config file. Restart the game and it'll now correctly show the Loading screen and get to the start menu once more.

This should help with crashing savegames until an official patch:
