Hey there fellow Mac gamers!
I bought Portal 2 two days ago (Wednesday, May 9th) when it was for sale, and I have read a lot about Perpetual Testing Initiative. But when it finally got downloaded and I startet it up, it crashed! I have tried to uninstall it and install it back again, two times, but with no luck. Also tried to verify the game cache files, no luck with that too.. Have been googling around A LOT, but I don't find anyone with similar problems ![]() Firstly, the Valve logo comes up, then the "powered by Source" screen, but during the screen when it just say Portal 2, it crashes after about 5 seconds. I have TF2 and Portal 1 from before, and both of them works just fine, it is just Portal 2 that crashes! I'm not sure if if should post the entire crash log here, becasue it is very long, but if I need to, just tell me here and I'll be happy to post it ![]() My specs:
Not sure what more is necessary of specs, just tell me what you need to know and I'll post it! Thanks Last edited by nichoBK: 05-11-2012 at 09:27 AM. |

Hi,
I faced the same problem with Portal 2. What finally solved it was to do a complete reinstall of steam, after backing up the stamapps folder (where are the downloaded games are), as explained here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...3329-WUJN-5636 However, there was another hurdle. After reinstalling steam with a newly downloaded copy, it would not get updated - the connection invariably fails. This seems to be a well known issue with the mac client, and in the unofficial mac faq http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1269939 the solution suggested is to download the prebuilt updated steam client from this site: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...&postcount=246 After all this, I ran steam, quitted and copied back my steamapps folder, ran stem again and - finally played portal2 on my iMac! |

Edit: And should I reinstall Portal 2 after I've reinstalled Steam? Last edited by nichoBK: 05-14-2012 at 07:20 AM. |

Yes, it worked! Thank you sooo much hmx357, without you I would still be stuck here with a unplayable game!
![]() I reccomend everyone else having these problems to reinstall Steam AND Portal 2, that's what worked for me

Both of us were crashing after the valve logo/loading screen. Had tried a lot of things but this is what it worked for me and my friend as well. Be sure to make your backup copy in another folder than the steam one as when you uninstall the whole Steam folder will get deleted. If you can't see Steam in the control panel as an uninstalling option, download it and istall it where it is now, and then you can uninstall it. Or just delete the folder if you can't see it in control panel. After that I installed Steam, installed Portal 2 and it worked. |

portal 2
Did you uninstall steam, or just do a reinstall from the link you provided? Also, did you reinstall portal 2 or just paste the 'apps' folder back in the new steam folder?
