Need a decent gaming laptop

I'd like to get a decent gaming laptop, one that can run games well and one that won't cost so much. It's going to be for my fiancée since we play a lot of L4D2 together, she uses her brother's laptop but she needs one herself.

Maximum price I'd like to spend is around $1K but ideally $600-$700 would a good range. I was thinking of the new line-up than Origin released, though I don't know if it's any good.

Any suggestions?

Doing some research on this laptop that you suggested and it actually has some nice reviews and seems to be universally loved. I'll look more into it and see if it's the best option. It's on sale right now too so it's pretty tempting.

Thanks.

I picked mine up for $650 plus a 2 year warranty on newegg awhile ago.... but mine is the core i5 variant that's sporting a dual core, still flies though EVERYTHING I've thrown at it. Only gripes against it I have is mine came with a 5400rpm HDD and 4Gb of RAM. I've upgraded to 8Gb and looking to get an SSD, but it rocks as is.

Aw darn it's not that cheap now, I thought the $699 was already pretty good. I'll try looking around.

How's the screen though, that's the only con I've been reading around is the average screen.

I used to game on an iMac that had a 1680x1050 20" screen that was beautiful... to be honest, I was a bit worried about the screen also as the laptop one is 1366x768. It's not beautiful, but I've seen worse and in game, it's not that bad really.

But he mentioned he had the iMac and you can't argue that it has one of the best displays out there. But other than that, Mac has limited Steam games so that's a drawback.

I didn't even mention specs. I mentioned the iMac, the desktop and it's display which is much better than than any laptop obviously. Again, iMac display, no mention of mac laptops at all, or specs.

But of course, to agree with you, the specs on the mac laptops aren't optimal for gaming or customizing, because it's not supposed to be.

That Origin laptop seems to have a •11.6" HD 1366x768 (16:9 Aspect Ratio) monitor. I think that is a tad bit small. You may want to check out some of these laptops.

Screen size 17.3 in.

The specs might be a little overkill.
17 inches is decent size for gaming but a little too big for a laptop.
I was looking around the 13-14 inch range.

Alienware makes good gaming laptops yes but a little overpriced sometimes. Thanks for the suggestion.
