My steam is installed on a removable disk. I use it on a couple of different computers. Now, every time I run steam one one, it says “Steam is not properly installed on this computer. Steam services needs to run with elevated privileges to repair system settings.”
There are a couple of requests for this:
Some years back steam worked without this service and thus without “bypassing UAC whenever it wanted”. They simply wanted you to pay for their games. Now they want administrator rights to your computer… To me, that is just unacceptable. I want to pay for their games, but not for them to do anything what they want on my computer. I do trust Valve, but I don’t want their service to have constant administrator rights! --> Has anyone any clue as to how to bypass this requirement? I am sure Steam works without it. PLEASE don't reply if you don't have anything constructive to say related to the question. |

One possibility is to disable the "Steam Client Service" in the services.msc.
Steam, when started, will ask for a reinstall, but at least it will start if you say "no". |

Also there won't be "Steam Service" if you install Steam to your main HDD where OS is installed.
