Unable to Install Steam

Hi guys,

I just bought a new win 7 laptop and since ystd i have been trying to install steam on this new laptop but whenever i complete the installation and steam automatically updates the steam platform, it will just get stuck at either 0%, 19%, 30%, 32% or 35%.

I have tried everything i can including uninstalling my anti-virus, turning my firewall off, turning my UAC off, deleting/renaming the blob file and reinstalling a dozen of times. I even tried installing it on my brother's laptop (which used to be able to use steam) but the same thing also happens.

Is there something that i have missed out or is there something wrong with the server update? Anyone knows?

I am running on a home fire-optic connection. Also i realised a new trend now everytime i reinstall steam, the update will 1st go to 26% then it will automatically close. Sometimes it will reopen and get stuck sometimes it doesn't reopen itself but when i reopen it, it gets stuck

turned off what firewall?
if it is not the windows firewall turning off is not good enough.

your whole country is firewalled as far as I know.

exactly you got it.
you are explaining that it is not a PC problem but something outside the PC.

reboot modem and router by taking the power off a minute.

or hook up to the modem to the laptop if you do not have a modem/router combo.

It could be your router, so if you can swap that out that might be helpful. Also try it direclty wired instead of wireless as well.

This new modem doesn't allow me to connect directly. I have to use a router. I manage to install steam on my laptop now by forwarding the ports for steam on my router.
