Comments like this make me laugh. It VALVE hired the people, then VALVE's the developer. It doesn't even matter if they bought the company. They didn't released "Narbacular Drop 2" after all. Once they hired the team, they made Portal from scratch. Same goes for Turtle Rock with Left 4 Dead. And the same about Dota, since they hired Icefrog, the original creator of Dota.

Oh, and also, 'unimaginative retreads of old Valve ideas from a long time ago like the latest CS repeat'. Seriously? So, if VALVE makes a new CS game after 8 years since the last one, it's an 'unimaginative retread'; yet when Activision does that with COD each year it's 'the greatest game ever'. CS is one of the most popular multiplayer games of all times. It kind of deserves a new title under its name.

Valve is one of few surviving best PC game developers. They care much about PC gamers than about console gamers. Though they do "look after" PS3 gamers.

And I think that Valve doesn't have 300 programmers, but employees. I guess they've more HW technicians than programmers, to keep up and running all the hardware needed for ~5 millions concurrent Steam users.
