Lower League Tactic
Is it a simple case of keep everything mostly in the middle for tactics? so play a simple formation and don't have too high or too low tempo? how about passing style?

4-2-3-1(with 2 wide wingers and 1 AMC).
Play a slightly deeper defensive line, shorter passing, more creativity and slightly slower tempo. This has worked very well for me not only in lower league but up through the leagues as I got promoted. Last edited by Sinhealer: 05-23-2012 at 09:39 AM. |

It all depends from your squad, what kind of key attributes your players got. For example if you have defenders with high positioning attribute and low marking it would be better to set them to zonal marking. Or if you have aged midfielders with low pace and natural fitness then don't play fast tempo games. Football Manager consist of such small details which makes difference. Think logically

When you are in say the BSN with very little cash to spend or indeed to pay for wages trying to use that sort of tactic would just not work. You would need say the entire defence too have pretty much the same attributes to use zonal,it runs the same for midfield, maybe you have 2 young guys with speed but 3 others that are either older or indeed quite a bit slower. For lower league keep it simple. Also search and search for the young players you will be surprised what you can find. Get a couple of midfielder's with good passing and creativity. I picked up a 15 year old AMC that went straight into my Nuneaton side in the 1st January window,we are now in the Premiership and he is 21 and listed as a wonderkid. For lower league you can bring in a bunch of kids that will cost you nothing and very low wages to mix with 3 or 4 of your older players and run away with the league. |

I like playing up the middle in the lower leagues. 4-1-2-1-2, 4-1-3-2, and 4-3-1-2 are all I generally use. I always have a hard time finding decent wingers that fit into my squad the first couple years and it's a lot easier to stock up on, rotate and train midfielders for DMC or the AMC positions.
I'd probably play differently if the teams I selected had quality on the wings but mine usually don't. |

Although it's much more fun to make your own tactic, I have stumbled upon an amazing tactic ! So far it has won me the league with Melbourne Heart (twice in two years) and then once with Club Brugge.

![]() As for the op question, there's really no 'right' answer. What you need to do is look at your squad and make a decision on that. The idea that you can pick and choose the type of player that you want isn't right, you generally get youngsters being released by clubs or old players being released by clubs, and by the time you've got the best of those that are willing to accept your wages it's quite a mixed bag. But if you've got lots of good CM, play 3 CM, if you've only got 1 good stiker, don't play 2 anyway. If you've got good LM and RM but no AM RL then don't try 4-3-3 with wingers. The only thing i would say is i've always prefered direct passing in the lower leagues. With more games it doesn't lower the condition of your players so much when they're not running around trying to create those little triangles that make short passing work. Also short passing on pot holed grounds never really seemed to make much sense to me. Spend some time looking at those free players though, it's full of quality for the lower leagues. |

Not outdated at all. It uses the classic tactics screen, which IS a feature in FM2012.
Once you go to classic screen, you can't revert to the 'modern' one though. |

Eg When I started FM 2012 I took over Bristol City who were 'Low Rep'for the Championship & used 'Classic' Tactics and got promoted 1st Season, With A.Villa used 'Classic' and got relegated and quit the game. Restarted with Sligo Rovers Low rep internationally but high rep in their league used the default or set tactic's and won the league. It is Football there is no set way for every team or Player ask Andy Caroll. |
