Steam Wrappers
Am I the only one who sees all of the other mac games not on steam? I am a member of the website the porting team where we do the work the many companies should, port games to mac effortlessly. Using a simple process we can place all of the game files in a wrapper and have it run like a windows computer. Please valve add an option next to add non steam game for add wrapper where we can add the wrapper application. We wouldn't have to crack the game this way and could still obtain mods, updates and have multiplayer
Complex stuff: When we do this, we usually crack the games, this is because the steam API still calls through the wrapper, transgaming the people who make cider, one of our methods, have releases a mac API in their resources folder that can call steam through the wrapper, just look at the game sid meyer's thing 5. Or even the darkness 2. Valve this doesn't limit any publisher because you normally don't even accept 3rd party ports (Feral and Aspyr) because they are on different pricing between mac and pc. This would just check if we own the game, based on what game is being called in the api |

Cider is owned by Transgaming.
Hacks of Cider the way most are done at the porting team are illegal. Wineskin is usually ok, depending on what you have installed in it, but it can be a TON of work to keep up with making working wrappers in a way Valve its going to support it. That should be up to the game developer, not Valve. Some games use Wineskin and Cider, and sell games on Steam. Last edited by dpgirl: 05-23-2012 at 05:15 PM. |

we would be using wineskin, no issue there, and hey it is less work for the devs since we do all of the work, but valve won't distribute these, we will

if Valve puts in official support in any way, they have to support it in at least a minor way... they cannot pass that support off to a website community. If you had a company that could provide these services under a legally binding contract, then you might have a chance.

i like this, or better yet, valve shouldn't stop us from downloading any steam game regardless of whether or not its for mac... they should have notice that says we need to wrap it for it to work on mac...
its such a pain in the rear to have to wrap steam and then wrap the game you want to play |

As it has been put,
Bit if a hard one especially due to pricing differences. Feral and Aspyr do really good jobs. But if the games that they ported were in Steam i imagine they would have to have a price cut. If we look at games like Batman Arkham Asylum. its £29.99 on the app store. But PC version is half that price. Even though we got it a year later. So being the same price on steam for PC and MAC. basically means Asphyr and Feral would lose their profits. Im also a member of the porting team. fantastic group of people. But for steam to support that too. (I don't personally think they are ready for it.) All I'm hoping for is more games for MAC. |
