PeZBOTS MW2 Demonmod, user review / tutorial
For the people that don’t read:
Demonmod v1.7 General Info: http://youtu.be/uXAZBoTnYU4 Demonmod v1.7 Usage and Warnings! http://youtu.be/snDN7y6LAkg I already joined the Demonmod Portaal; http://demon-mod.com but that place is dead as a doornail, not even the Board Administrator responds. (I suspect they are working their asses off on the new version of Demonmod for Black Ops.) That’s why I will be placing my user-review / tutorial here: User review / tutorial; PeZBOTS MW2 Demonmod (v1.7) for CoD4. Thank you (the creator(s)) for adding such a incredible amount of replay-ability, co-op-ability and train-ability to the CoD4 universe! This is the best freaking mod I ever came across! I mostly host DEMONMOD so I can play with some old farts who couldn’t hit the side of a barn if their lives depended upon it They don't have a lot of time to investand need instant satisfaction (game-play wise) and DEMONMOD does exactly that! It’s just a pleasure to burry yourself under a pile of moderate skilled bots and kick the living daylights out of them! And all that in a MW2 “setting”, which makes it feel like a totally different game altogether. But now for the bad news; this mod couldn’t have been marketed any worse! The outrageous realism setting (by default) has put a lot of people instantly off. I almost uninstalled it after the first use, but I discovered that the creator(s) made this mod very “modable”! I spend hours going through the 13 accompanied cfg files, adjusting the parameters until I got the “original” CoD4 game-play back, and COMBINED that with the extra MW2 kill-streaks-rewards, weapons, perks and PeZBOTS. Now CoD4 without DEMONMOD isn’t really an option anymore! The only thing I am missing are the assault-dogs and a riot-shield! One thing that annoyed the hell out off me though, was the excessive Demonmod "stamping": Artwork, logo’s, blood-spatters etc. I cleaned it all up using the cfg’s. And I also went into the IWD file itself to wipe some additional graphics clean. Now it’s just a dream to play! There are also some issue’s with the PeZBOTS, but they are still a better option than the “Combat Training” bots in “Black Ops” as he latter are only intended for gunplay and not for real objectives. In that aspect the creator of PeZBOTS (Pezzalucifer) really shines, because he has succeeded in delivering us (2008) a bot that can capture flags, objectives and arm and disarm bombs. Due realize this is extraordinary and creates a lot more possibilities multiplayer-mode-wise. Now you can play real objective based games like Capture the Flag, Sabotage, Headquarters, Domination with and against bots! (This is really important to some of us!) STARTING THE GAME: Now for its main issue: This mod is VERY COMPLICATED TO USE! You need to be a regular admin/host or have some knowledge of console commands to get this baby to do what you want it to do. The documentation recommends that you make a specific shortcut which instantly loads a multiplayer game, based upon the settings in the 13 accompanied cfg files. Users be aware, it loads your active profile! Best is to make a separate active profile for this mod! I made my own specific shortcut to run Demonmod from within the COD4 main menu: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set fs_game "mods/mp_demonmod" +exec mp-server.cfg +set sv_punkbuster 0 And blanked out my maprotation in my maprotation.cfg! This way I can start up the game/mod regularly, choose my profile and setup my own (listen) server using the in-game multiplayer menu. But pay attention when choosing the GAME MODE! Don’t NAVIGATE TO ANY OF THE NEW GAMETYPES: "Team Assault”, “Retrieval” or “Demolition" otherwise COD4 will crash! This is my scheme for selecting from within the game-menu which users might find to be useful: Main Menu => Start New Server => GAME MODE LEFT MOUSE = through selection downwards in scheme-order = FORWARDS ! RIGHT MOUSE through selection upwards in scheme-order = BACK! -CRASH! Free for All Domination Search & Destroy Sabotage Team Deathmatch = STARTING VALUE Headquarters Capture the Flag -CRASH! Once I start a map, I add PeZBOTS via the console command “scr_pezbots (amount)”. (My PeZBOT.cfg has scr_pezbots on 0, otherwise they will be added automatically.) The other commands are very useful and speak for themselves: “set scr_pezbots_team” "axis" // values are - "allies", "axis", or "autoassign" “set scr_pezbots_skill” 0 // 0 = moderate skill, 1 = high skill (can be done on the fly). A COUPLE OF PRATICAL NOTES ABOUT USING PeZBOTS: Game-modes not support by (DEMONMOD) PeZBOTS (as they freeze): (I might up fighting some users on this one, but on my server they always freeze!) -Search and destroy -Team Assault -Retrieval Maps not support by (DEMONMOD) PeZBOTS (as CoD4 crashes (confirmed)): -CITYSTREETS -CROSSFIRE NOW IT GETS COMPLICATED! In the DEMONMOD version of PeZBOTS (modified v006p) there is a limitation of the amount of bots you can use per game session (=multiple map-changes). Upon loading the next map all the bots will drop and will be replaced by new ones. That is, until it reaches its limit of 32 slots minus the humans! So if you use 10 bots (+ 2 humans) you are good for at least 2 map changes = 3 matches. (They are some workarounds but they go way beyond my competences.) In the latest STANDALONE version of PeZBOTS (11p) this problem is solved, but … Although you might not think it, the (DEMONMOD) PeZBOTS version (modified v006p) is still superior to 11p. This is because they can handle different round(switches) within one match. And the version 11p bots start WARPING all over the place after just one round (in the same match)! (05-15-13) This is a BUG and can be fixed: PeZBOT 12p ? http://youtu.be/hFWDywHMHH8 Also the v006p bots seem to be way more aggressive and use their grenades a lot more! (LISTEN) SERVER PERFORMANCE: If you add too many PeZBOTS to your listen server you will loss responsiveness in your controls and encounter a frame-delay. I use a trick to resolve this “performance” issue: I SET UP, AND JOIN my own dedicated server (online or offline) when I want to use 16 (max 24) bots in a match. Works like a charm, and also applies to CoD5 WaW when using PeZBOTS. THE SKILL LEVEL OF THE BOTS DETERMINES THE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE! QUANTITY BEFORE QUALITY! When I host Demonmod we mostly use the moderate skill level for the PeZBOTS. Which means in our case, we can add 4 bots per person before we are literally overrun. Friendly fire is always on, which makes things quit hectic, but that applies to both sides. (It’s great to see PeZBOTS stepping on “friendly” martyrdom nades!) We thoroughly enjoy this continues god-like-ego-shooter-gameplay-variant, but if you are looking for a real challenge, than set the PeZBOT skill to high! These guys will give a real run for your money! We usually play Capture the Flag, Sabotage or Headquarters. And we sometimes spice things up by splitting up the humans and battling each other with a team of PeZBOTS. If you want to try that, just make sure friendly fire is set to off!!! Thanks again for creating this incredible mod! We are looking forward to an update. And if I may, here is a little tip: Try to market your mod (lite version) to aspiring “gamers” who don’t have a decent rig, but still want to get (an introduction) into the CoD multiplayer universe. Believe me, there are a lot of them (us) out there, who simply don’t want to compete online, “or don’t dare” (all for good reasons). But your mod makes the CoD multiplayer accessible. Even for people with low end machines! XXX WHISHLIST: Assault Dogs Riot Shield Means to control PeZBOTS: STAND- MOVE COMMANDS, TAKE CONTROL OF PEZBOTS? (Like “sb_takecontrol” in L4D). Make gear- and perklist for PeZBOTS configurable (not only powerclass). (Our most senior soldier keeps walking upon martyrdom nades ![]() ISSUES: When you shoot a PeZBOT they sometime freeze (missing “second chance” animation?) 32 slot limitation per game session for PeZBOTS 006p! PeZBOT Map support for CITYSTREETS and CROSSFIRE. PeZBOT Game mode support for Search and Destroy, Team Assault and Retrieval. Harrier ammo leaves a light-trail on impact which doesn’t disappear. --- I made a movie demonstrating “my version” of MW2 Demonmod. It involves a complete Killstreak with all rewards. COD4 PeZBOTS MW2 DEMONMOD Killstreak Demo Take 23: 1 vs a lot - Sabotage (1 round) - map Overgrown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1b4XPs9f34 FOR Some Co-op Action see: "The Errand Boy". 3 vs 16 - Capture the flag - map Broadcast. http://youtu.be/OTvmRkMy3UU The major changes I made to Demonmod are: Changed the outrageous MW2 realism setting back to the original CoD4 auto-heal-formula! Removed all Demonmod HUD “stamping”; logo’s, (cheap) blood-splatters etc. Changed the order and increased the demands for all kill-streak-rewards. Disabled Counter UAV (as it sometimes glitches). UAV is enabled for 300 seconds. Friendly Fire On! (It probably runs just fine on a CoD4 Steam version, but just to make sure, as all my friends use a standalone version of CoD4: Does anybody have some experience running Demonnmod from within the Steam version?) I downloaded this yesterday, and it is a blast. Like you, I had to tweak the configs, but I'm loving it (the realism stuff is not for me).
Thanks for the heads up. +1 rep (or maybe +2 by accident lol) Last edited by ballpoint202: 04-11-2012 at 08:55 AM. |

Glad to hear that you also enjoyed it.
It was a brilliant move on the part of the developers to incorporate PeZBOTS into their mod. Still hoping that other mods like; MW2 Open_Warfare2 and Frontlines R3L04D get (real) PeZBOT support. Are you running the Steam version of CoD4? |

We are playing against high level bots now, 3 per person.
We get the job done, but it's no fun anymore. Things get very predictable and we sometimes need to exploit the limited AI routines. Opting for 6 moderate per person (24 seems to be the limit). Tx for the reply, |

I wish they'd vary up the bot movements a bit to get rid of the "lemming lines". It's the one criticism I have for PeZBOTS.

I'm especially horrified with the incredible amount of damage you have to put into the the high level bots to stop them.
Its like the all have a triple doss of "juggernaut" combined with "last stand". Last week we tried the latest stand alone version of PeZBOTS 11p again. These high level bots seem to be a bit more "realistic", and vary there game-play a lot more. (But damn, that one round limit!) |

Anyway I could get a download of 1.7? The main site is taken down, and Moddb only has 1.6.

I'll do you one better.
I'll give you the original 1.7 version (34MB). And my version. (You can change all settings yourself in the 13 accompanied cfg files.) But you must promise me to place them on-line for public access. Or give me some quick and dirty instructions how (and where) I can do it myself. And what the hell are they doing over there at the Demonmod portal? Did a major Studio pick them up? Did they throw in the towel? (PeZBOT is still alive!) /// Really miss the Stalker perk in CoD4, or am I missing something? |

There are a lot of tutorials out there about how to get a dedicated server up and running. Just google something like "cod4 dedicated server tutorial".
So, do you have a download link to version 1.7 I could use? |

Increasing that value and decreasing the "playerrespawndelay" really helped to spread them around! As for the PeZBOTS, these guys are just cannon-fodder! The more the merrier! Just like girlfriends; go for Quantity instead of Quality.
