arx fatalis wont start

i get the prompt "preparing to launch arx" but afterwards it never launches. anyone help me out on this?

Hmm i don't know... but you should really give Arx Libertatis a try

Same as the OP - appears in Task Manager for a moment then closes. Steam just 'prepares' and then the notification vanishes.

Edit: Running Steam as admin brings up a white window for the game but it immediately crashes. Ah well, I guess I did get it free with Dishonered. I was looking on the GOG forums (since the game is also there) and it appears a few people have this problem too.
