You don't have to bump, it's being added.

Thread was started 4 years ago, that news was released almost a year ago and I still can't see bandwidth throttling options anywhere. WUTF? How hard can it be? I have unly 1MB connection and Steam completely kills it, makes it far from practical application if I have to keep it downloading during nights etc. times wasting electricity when I'm not using the internet.

This feature is so overdue its ridiculous!
I simply can't use my internet when Steam is downloading as it hogs 100% of the connection Come on Valve - you've even got remote installation now with your App yet you still can't add this? |

I gave up waiting and ended up downloading netbalancer to throttle steam a while ago. Its ridiculous how overdue this is. It has been working fairly good, sometimes steam will go through avast for updates and I don't like to limit avasts speed since firefox also goes through avast but besides that it works perfectly for me.

i also believe this should be added already, i cant hang on yt or do anything whilst downloading games, and i do that often
it would also let you download games whilst playing games on steam i have 32 mbits downstream, limiting it to 16 or 24 mbits of download whilst having 8 mbits to play would be awesome |

It's gated on every game being moved over to the new content system, and we're something like 30-40% of the way there. Also the tools to publish to it are going out to developers, new games are starting to be released on it almost routinely, etc. There's progress.
As frustrating as the slowness is, it's much better than pushing too fast and causing more problems. People really don't like it when something stops working because of an infrastructure improvement, because they don't connect the disruption causally with the enabled improvement. |

As others have already stated, there are paid apps that are dedicated to doing this, apps that have such a feature included (utorrent and similar), and just about every open source router firmware has this ability. Valve is basically being lazy/cheap, and they apparently just don't give a sit. Last edited by MajorYos: 07-14-2012 at 01:07 PM. |
