The Good The Bad and the Ugly
The Good - MORE OFP. I will seriously never get tired of this type of game. Have been playing OFP since day one and it is amazing to me that 10-11 years later I am still playing it. Kids with ADHD do not have the capacity or attention span to learn or want to play the game so it is nice not having to deal with asshats and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ all the time. I must say I am most impressed with the graphics so far. They seem a lot more crisp and realistic than they did in ARAM2, especially tracers and what not. Being able to drive around in an IS-2 for the first time is EXCELLENT. I do love the bolt action operation animations as well. I have waited a decade for a OFP type game to do an adequate representation of the eastern front. 3A СТАЛИНA!!!
The Bad - More OFP. As is typical with every single game using this engine, it is riddled with bugs that, for some of us, renders it unplayable. I am unable to pass the tutorial in the Soviet campaign due to bugs and the German campaign keeps crashing. The only single player missions are pretty much showcase missions and it was advertised (falsely) that there would be a lot of missions. Multiplayer has always been buggy, jerky, laggy, and ♥♥♥♥ty. I don't think I've ever had an enjoyable experience in MP with an OFP type game and I'm on a 26mb connection. I've always had a yellow chain on my screen. In this game, I can't even get into a server. I really wish they would have finished the game first. I would have gladly continued waiting patiently for it. The Ugly - More OFP. The voice acting is just as ♥♥♥♥ty as it has always been. It is a little bit better, but absolutely juvenile at times which does not belong in a serious milsim. Komrade Komissar says to me "Be sure to aim for their heads, not their balls"...ok? I am all for ♥♥♥♥ and fart jokes but not when its about World War 2. 6 million Jews and twice that many Russians died and I want to play this game to recreate their struggle. The sounds are generally TERRIBLE. Aircraft engines don't have a throaty rumble and instead sound like lawn mowers with bass added. Also the sound levels are out of whack. During the opening scenes when an officer is trying to give me the skinny on the situation, there is thankfully a plane in the background with engines running making it impossible to hear him. I think the worst part about the game is the lack of content. Someone stated this should have been a DLC for ARMA2 for $15. I agree. My fun in the games comes from screwing around in the editor. Each side only gets two planes and while I was glad to see the FW-190 (one of my favorites) there is something seriously wrong and lacking when a game with Soviets doesn't get and Il-2 Shturmovik or a MIG or a YAK. No BF-110? The Soviets paradrop in a C-47 during the German campaign yet it is not available in the editor that I can find. One whole heavy tank for each faction? Konigstiger but no Tiger? I mean really? TLDR - Buy it if you like OFP/ARMA. The issues will eventually get fixed and whatever isn't fixed will get fixed by the modding community. It will eventually be worth its price but isn't right now in its current state. It stinks of a buggy and unfinished game where promises of grandeur are fulfilled through DLCs and demanding more money. Remember that one time a long time ago when you could buy a game and receive a complete game? Those were the good ol' times. |
