Keyboard Controls, Xbox Controller, PC Arcade Stick Availability, Online Play...
Hello I have a few questions with regards to the topical issues.
Does anybody use their keyboards to play and if so, what is your control set up?!? I find that some keys dont work when you press then together like if im pressing e and d to move diagonally right then i can only press one of the two kick buttons. I just bought an expensive mechanical keyboard for starcraft 2 so it aint my ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥. With regards to Xbox Controllers on the PC, does anybody notice that they are so unresponsive that they cannot be used at all?!? does anybody notice how you cant jump diagonally unless you are practically boot♥♥♥♥ing it with a steel toe shoe into that particular direction (and even still sometimes no matter how much force you extert onto it, jumping diagonally is a hit or miss). Is it just me or is this common?!? Are there any reasonably priced arcade sticks available for the PC because here in Vancouver, BC there are no hard copies at any EB store nor are there any pc peripherals of that nature. And if its not here in vancouver then its nowhere in canada. How do they expect us to even play the game solo if there are control issues with every possible avenue?!? And with regards to online play... My system benchmarks at avg 200fps with all the settings maxed out because my computer is brand spanking new. Why in the ♥♥♥♥ is it lagging so god damn bad online?!? should I turn the VSYNC on so that my framerate caps out on more of an average scale?!? I heard somewhere that in order to have decent online play the VSYNC must be on so the speeds are more nsync (awesome band btw) thanks for your time. Im about ready to throw in the towel on this game though because its just taking wayyyy too much time to get the basics stable and I mean.. I have a full time job. I play music. I do my own game design... I play starcraft 2... How much slack should I give this ♥♥♥♥ing 60 dollar bloodsack of asbestos in my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ |

The keyboard issues sound totally like something on your end.
I'm on a laptop, so a default keyboard. The few times I used my keyboard I have no issues that you described. I do not find the diagonals input unresponsive, but my character does sometimes randomly jump up-left, but this happens in other games too, so it's something with my controller. Your rig's specs have nothing to do with online lag. This simply means your opponent has a connection to you with some issues. The game functions at 60fps anyway, so it doesn't matter that much either way. I don't understand you point in the last paragraph. FGs, just like SC, require a lot of time investment to be even remotely decent. My personal experience is that, online lag (teleporting and sound, since sound effects are tied into the netcode for some reason) notwithstanding, I have no issues just training right now. Can't help you with the purchasing of stick. I'm in EU and use PS3 controller. |

Mechanical keyboards shouldn't cap out like conventional ones unless they use ♥♥♥♥tier innards that can't handle simultaneous keypresses. That's very uncommon for mechanical ones. Try plugging your keyboard into a different USB port somewhere on your computer. Quote:
This shouldn't happen if you're more consistent, but a worn or very finicky controller would exacerbate the problem. Quote:

In SFIV, the game would implement something like 5 frames of hard input lag, then implement MORE input lag based on the latency. Combo timing would change like the wind. If you were fighting numerous opponents, or if you were on an unstable connection, you were essentially "Guessing" whenever you had to hit a timing window. In SFxT, the game uses predictive algorithms instead of just tossing on input delay. The benefit of this is that regardless of the connection, once you start a combo, the timing is going to be identical to offline. The problem is, they forgot to add enough hard input lag (like SFIV's static 5 frames or so) to compensate for sub-optimal connections. This means the rollback happens FAR too often. This is a far cry from a proper implementation of rollback code which allows you to set your frame delay based on your connection. Luckily, they'll be releasing a patch sometime soon (In a week?). Hopefully that fixes it. When that happens, the game should run smoothly provided you and your opponent can churn out a smooth 60FPS offline. It will not make a miracle out of +250ms connections, but your connections on the West coast and Japan should run a lot nicer. Last edited by Krackatoa: 05-30-2012 at 11:57 PM. |

thank you guys very much I really appreciate it
the time you took to address all of my issues... more than capcom has addressed their customers... more than steam could ever hope to help appease impatient customers...
Honestly thank you guys so much im going to read over this all a couple times and hopefully ill be able to straiten up. I have been using the xbox controller and I mean it has its issues like with some emulators it is spastic but for whatever reason its too late now I am going to stick with the keyboard. The one I have is not the most expansive one it is the razer blackwidow and I mean its slightly used. I have a config that works 100percent I have my movement as edsf and my attacks as 789 456 on the numpad. Right now I have my graphics all the way up bcuz otherwise its too fast but I am still wondering as to whether or not I should put the VSYNC on... And yes the gentleman was right about the time investment... I mean don't get me wrong I love the game and I consider it like the sc2 of fighting games (potentially). I used to be big into fighters back on the consoles like vf4 / capcom vs snk / rumble fish emulated for atomiswave... I know my way around the block but sometimes get lost |

VSYNC would only slow down your graphics card a bit for the sake of synchronizing your graphics card with your monitor thus reducing power usage of your gpu -> would be good to activate it if fps won't drop below monitor's Hz (saves energy :>)
VSYNC is also used for CRT-Monitors to avoid possible glitches. But VSYNC won't have an impact on online play at all. PS: SFxTK is not (yet) the sc2 of fighting games but SFIV:AE is. :P |

ok so im gonna keep the vsync off
alright everything seems good to go im gonna keep the vsync off and go from there. the last few matches I played were pretty good with it off except for a bit of that teleporting but very little of it.
ya street fighter 4 is awesome I never had any trouble finding a match. its great when you don't have too much extra time you can go online and play a few anytime. im sure it wont be too long before xtekken gets to that point. thanks again guys |
