Best CPU that this board can run
Not my main pc but one a family member uses has the following MB
MSI 945GCM7-F i945GC Socket 775 It currently has a core 2 duo E5200 2.5GHz and this when used for some games is struggling and generally maxed out. So was looking for advice on what the best 775 CPU would go in this mb. Budget under £50, second hand/ebay is fine. Also as it's running win 7 64 it is running very low on memory, currently has 2GB and could do with 4GB. It only has the 2 slots for ram so would need to replace for 2x2GB. It says "Supports DDR2 400/533/667 memory interface" but it has had 'OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Platinum XTC Memory Kit CL4 2.1V' in it for a few years now with no problems. Does this mean I can look for any 800MHz ram or should I stick to 667? |

Supports Socket 775 for Intel Core 2 Duo, P4 5XX, 6XX, Pentium D 8XX, 9XX and Celeron D processors Supports FSB 1333/1066/800/533MHz
So basically.. a Core 2 Duo thats better then what you have is the only route.. Honestly since you hav Win7 64bit, youd probably see a better gain with 4GB of RAM 2x2GB then a CPU. For the record, the RAM is downclocked to 667 as it doesnt support 800mhz |

And on the CPU front any core 2 duo should work so this E8500 should be good? |

CPU side you'll have to goto the MSI site and see what C2D's are supported but that should be fine yes.
As for the RAM, that should suffice and cant really beat the price, but id go for a known brand rather then some possibly generic crap. |
