What is funny, is that there are more words said by Gabe Newell in the latest article than there was in the entire "Valve's Gabe Newell Talks Linux Steam Client, Source Engine" article.

Although Phoronix doesn't have much evidence, Gabe isn't always known to talk indepth about his current projects. We know more about Steam for Linux than we know about HL3, for crying out loud. So be doubtful of Larabel, but don't have a witch hunt.

I am not having a witch hunt personally. I do believe Steam is coming for Linux, it's just that I have hard time believing Michael Larabel when all his evidence is just a bunch of low-detail pics, a fuzzy video, and a screenshot of an email from a 3rd party (which, for all we know, could have been shopped).

Although the low detail pics are the best evidence, since you can see the items in the process list.

After bringing Steam on Mac, Valve has announced that a Linux version of its digital distribution platform would come out by 2013, accompanied by a Linux version of the Source Engine. That should please fans of this free operating system.

That article (or its translation) is quite misleading. Valve still haven't announced it (at E3 or otherwise), and even though it is labelled as E3 news, the source is another article:

Did not you know maybe not, but Windows is not the only operating system available for our PC. We often forget Linux, the OS used by Free PCistes allergic to the creations of Bill Gates. Sole concern of Linux: it does not run all the software. Worse, there is still no version of Steam compatible with the operating system. But that was before Gabe Newell gave the green light to adapt the platform for downloading.

This is a reader of the site Phoronix tells us that the happy news. The latter would indeed exchanged a few emails with the big boss of Valve . To the question "Does the Linux version of Steam released before the end of the year?" Gabe Newell responded with a simple "Yes". Remains to be seen exactly when Linux users can enjoy the platform, and especially what games will be available at launch. To be continued.

Actually I did the same earlier today and got the exact same answer. I guess Gabe is just answering all questions regarding Steam for linux like that.

As I said in the comments, it's great to have additional confirmation, but it's not quite an official announcement, and with Valve being the unpredictable beast that it is, I still think it's too early for party hats :3
