No stealth, no shadows, slow mo shooting, no Michael Ironside, the new voice over sounds like he's in his twenties. No thanks.

I prefer +100000000 times this gameplay a la Bourne that the old robotic animations and low pace. Still playing Conviction with friends, and still love it!

Sold for me...

I like Conviction (prefer Chaos Theory though) but the lack of Ironside (hopefully placeholder) and the lack of stealth there has me worried

You're in a tiny minority though.

Good grief you guys are being a bit narrow-minded, don't you think?
First off - before you poop it out:

Notice that it's the first gameplay demo. It's showing off the new combat mechanics.
Sticky shockers show a return, as does the interrupted hand-to-hand executions (they were in the beta vids for Conviction, but didn't make the final game), along with several new and uber-slick looking features.

Do you remember how Conviction looked when it was first shown by Ubisoft?
It looked pants. No stealth at all, ppl said.

The voice, if you were paying attention, is half in French and half in English.
However, this is a "prequel-sequel" (why do they love making those atm?); I'm not that hopeful that Sam will sound the same :/
The 2nd character is Vic, I believe. Sam's supposed to be younger so that would explain the younger voice. If you were paying attention, the creative director states, "at the formation of Third Echelon"... That's in the past compared to even SC1.

Maybe Lambert is back..?
I kinda hope not. He's dead, even though I'd rather forget that Double Agent ever happened, thanks. Waste of my life that was.

I'm pretty sure that, like all the other SC games, there will be the opportunity to ghost or whatever (SC:CT was the best for that - all missions in less than 10-20 mins with no alerts or lethal force, or even contact, etc...).
We gotta bear in mind that this is a modern game and will be, like SCC, on consoles and so will have to cater to that.

There will most likely be a few parts where lethal force is necessary :/
BUT!
It will look ing awesome when you have to do that and you will be able to seriously bust some quality moves, looking pretty damn sick, in the process

Actually, mate - there's me, him and a few other ppl from the SC coop group who are sold on it.

There's only 2 ppl in this thread that have said "no thanks based upon alpha gameplay footage". :P

Why'd you need to say that?
It just makes me point out that it's not true.

Read just about every reaction to it on CVG, Eurogamer, NEOgaf, GT, etc. Everyone's fuming. I didn't mean it to sound nasty

And this isn't a prequel as Sam has been promoted to head of Fourth Echelon.

ohhh - well he certainly looks a bit different... :/
I thought it was a different character at first.

Hmm, well, when it comes to modern games - I've found it best to make up yr own mind.
Otherwise, you end up playing some arsing mmorpg that's got 9/10 cos the reviewer love mmorpgs but hates everything else.

It's like the difference between The Walking Dead and Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City. Both are zombie games, but one has a cooler video and more hot chicks.
Doesn't mean that one's not as good as the other, but one certainly got waaay better reviews from the glossy gossip mags. I mean gaming mags.

At least, to start with...

I'd wait til there's a demo out (which I hope there is!) before being too critical.
I didn't like SCC at all to start, until I'd played it for more than 30 mins. Then I got into it and have racked up many a late night on it now, dude :P

What did you think was good about the trailer..?
I'ma have to change some posts elsewhere now that you've told me it's not a prequel!

This.

I'd prefer it if Ubisoft made a new IP if they wanted to make this type of game because it's not Splinter Cell.

I don't know why they have to ruin franchises. Why not just put a whole new name on it, and tell people that this "Tom Clancy" title is geared towards Jack Bauer's 24 action and the Jason Bourne crowd?

Instead they take a franchise that has been based on stealth and turn it into a mindless run-n-gun, press "X" to let the game win for u type of crap.

I remember when Splinter Cell demanded patients, restraint, and actual thinking. Not to mention not killing every living thing you come across like some COD game. The best missions in Splinter Cell were when you couldn't kill anyone, but rather had to sneak by them or disable them and hide their bodies.

IF Ubi wanted to take Splinter Cell in a new direction why not try something new and challenging like incorporating crowd technology? Sam would have to blend in with crowds in various ways to eavesdrop, tail, etc... and when all hell does break lose the enemies could use people as human shields/hostages. "Friendly" police officers would get involved so you'd have to use hand-to-hand combat ala Jason Bourne in Ultimatum to disable any "friendlies" who get into an altercation with you. You wouldn't be allowed to shoot any innocent citizens, etc...

No. Instead u go on co-pilot and let the game kill everything in site for you until the next QT event. RIP Splinter Cell.

Make that 3. And a thread on SPUF doesn't mean anything in terms of player scale.

Splinter Cell from day one, Stealth Action Redefined, all the way up to Chaos Theory - the benchmark in stealth games (up there with Thief and CoR: EFBB) was all about infiltration without being detected, giving us the option to not use our gadgets, knock-outs, or kills.

From Conviction onwards - this is what James Bond Blood Stone should have been. A lunatic ape scaling walls like it's Assassin's Creed and auto-aiming one-shoting baddies.

The formula was fine in the beginning. Just because Double Agent flopped (don't quote me, I don't know the sales figures and could care less from that poor-coded game), Maxy Beland over at HQ watched Casino Royale one too many times.

I didn't buy Conviction, and I fail to see how that and Black Lists gameplay can be anything close to rewarding. There is literally no skill required. You run through the map while the game literally kills everything for u until u reach the next quick time event. Oh but you got to mark the targets for 2 seconds while u hid behind cover... please.

Try having to memorize guard paths, camera timings, and getting into gun battles where getting shot once or twice actually kills u.

I'm not saying games like Conviction and Black List can't be fun, I'm saying the name "Splinter Cell" doesn't belong anywhere near them.

i cant believe this. they get rid of ironside cos they want somone to do motion capture and voice. why not have 2 people? and its not like ubisoft doesnt have the money to hire both.

as a fan of the true stealth genre and splinter cell series im very sceptical if this will even be a splinter cell game. conviction was good in its own right but failed as a splintercell game. not to say i didnt like conviction cos i did just as an action game.

although blacklist looks good as an action game im not ready to go play it thinking of it as a stealth game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYGoFH6bWXg in that trailer theres a bit where 'sam' is on a rooftop and go's up behind a guy but the guy turns around and sam takes him out. the old sam fisher would of taken all the guys out without them knowing he was there

i agree, knocking out and hiding bodies annoyed me that there were no such feature in conviction. and 'sam' killed everyone. in chaos theory im sure your rank got worse if you killed everyone opposed to knocking them out. thats what i hated about conviction. you had to eliminate everyone.

the type of features your describing is what the alpha version of conviction was before they scrapped it and turned it into what it became.
