they pretty much told me "sorry"

Like I said before, it sounds like your computer is either not configured correctly, in which case an OS reinstall may solve the issue. Alternately, you may have a hardware conflict which is unavoidable.

If you would like a refund I would be more than happy to do so.

Thank you for your support,

Hey guys, I was suffering from the same problems as all of you and fixed it pretty easily. I'm running Windows 7 on a 64-bit machine with an Nvidia based card and I was getting the crash on startup.

Right-click on the CaveStory+.exe and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Enable the "Run this program in compatibility mode" checkbox and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop-down menu. Enable the "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition" checkboxes, then hit the OK button.

You should be good to go after that.

Not working for me, either.

Well, I'm out of ideas.

For those of you still having this issue, try rebooting your computer. It worked for me, but then it started doing it again. Then, all I did was close Google Chrome and it worked flawlessly again. The reason I knew to do this was because the same thing used to happen to me with Minecraft. Apparently, Chrome's GPU rendering process sometimes hogs all the GPU. So, if you're still having this problem, try using the screen.cfg posted earlier and then try rebooting and closing all your browser windows (or all programs for that matter).

I know this is a bit late, but I got the problem fixed for me. this only would work if you have an ATI video card.
I think what happened is that when I upgraded to windows 7, catalyst control center stopped working. but I recently re downloaded it, and now the game works. this might help, I don't know, I'm not sure if this was even what fixed it.

For what it's worth, I installed Catalyst on my FireGL card and got a grey screen with the same treatment.
It was, however, progress after black screens.

Note: I still can't find any log files.

Red face

EDIT: Nevermind that. I got a new laptop for birthday, and Cave Story+ works like a charm on it. Funniest part is that I just needed to run the game, not editing anything.
Currently on the Egg Corridor with Polar Star, 16 Health and Missiles. Also fought Balrog.
