Unable to select the rifle

(I got this game through the Humble Indie Bundle, so apologies if this question shouldn't go here, but I couldn't think of a better forum)

I'm at the Milkman Conspiracy, right after you get the rifle from Boyd. Unfortunately, I'm now unable to select the rifle. I put the cursor/arrow on it, the press the spacebar and nothing. I can select any other item. I think my problem is that I got the rifle before getting the plunger, because before getting it, I could select the rifle normally.

I've tried resetting the computer and exiting to the real world. I'm on a Windows 7, but I haven't really had any compatibility issues.

I got the rifle before getting my plunger as well and I didn't experience a problem like this.

I managed to fix it! Here's my super hacker fix, in case anyone ever runs into the same problem:

Go to your save files (for me, it's in .../Psychonauts/profiles/whatever profile you're currently using/). Make a copy of one of your saves, preferably the most recent one, and paste it somewhere else (desktop, for example). Then, open the file that is still on your save files folder with the text editor. Click on edit, then on replace, and then replace "Plunger" (can be another item, like the "RollinPin") with "Rifle" on every occasion. Voilá, now your plunger and rifle switched places and you can select it.

PS: In case your game ♥♥♥♥s up, you can just replace your modified file with the backup copy you made.
