Super wierd, somewhat disturbing tf2 glitch.

So, I was going to my friends house because he said that something was wrong with his tf2, this is what happened.

1) Go to Steam>Library
2) Right click on TF2>Properties
3) Local Files (tab)>Verify Integrity of Game Cache

Let that run. If it says it needs to download files, then that's probably your problem. Just let it do it's thing. Somehow the files may have gotten corrupted.

Also, try setting all of the Advanced Video options to default.
To do that:
TF2>Options>Video (tab)>Advanced Video Options
Then on all of the dropdown boxes, make sure the option with a * next to it is selected.

Let me know if it works or not.
