Nope I'm saying Seagate drives can die randomly without any warning whatsoever. No clicking, no write/read errors, no smart errors, no nothing. They just die and fail to be detected by the bios and instantly become heavy weight coasters.

With other drives you at least have a chance of predicting an incoming error.

Any you may also not have a chance with other drives.

Seagate are not the only drives that can fail without warning.

tl;dr

Always keep a back up of anything you value.

^ That has never happened to me. Don't get me wrong, I really like how Seagate drives performs, really fast random access, however it's the only brand where I have experienced drives just randomly dying on me without any warning whatsoever. So far 3 out of 5 drives did just that.

With other brands it's clear as day when they are about to fail. But yeah, I keep a backup regardless, I'm just saying: Get ready

I've had 3 Seagates, 120GB, 320GB, 3TB. They are all dead. All of my WD's and Samsungs live on.

Seagate warranties vary depending on the product and where it's bought. The pattern I've noticed is that OEM drives have 1 year warranties, whereas some retail boxes get 5 year warranties.

As I've mentioned in other threads, anyone who thinks that Seagate are the only drives that fail is smoking some dubious substances. The safest strategy for reliability is to use drives from multiple manufacturers, and keep an off site backup.

I've had two of four WD drives fail, one with no warning. The only Seagate I've got has yet to fail. See above strategy.

Go google some.
I'd ask where in the world you got this idea from, but I think your name explains that.

ANY drive can die unexpectedly and without warning. Brand matters not.

Oh and for the record, I've got a gaggle (that's the official term for slightly more than a dozen) Seagate drives spinning 24/7 in various computers around my house (most in my main rig in an 8x2TB Raid5 array) that are all working great.

Had I bought WD or Toshiba's or Samsung drives, I'd probably still be saying exactly the same thing. As a matter of fact, I have several Toshiba drives happily chugging alongside their Seagate brethern.

I've also experienced a roughly equal failure rate amongst brands as well. As previously noted, many have died without warning too.
