Supreme cmmander won't load in windows 7
I can't get my recent steam download of Supreme Commander to load. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Home premium. Stem support wants me to delete my McAfee?!

Post your dxdiag. For all we know you could have an integrated graphics card (onboard graphics) and few of those support the right shader.

Before someone says "lol it's because it's a mac", I just tried to load it on win7 home premium and it crashes too, on my i5 750 Radeon 5850...

Googling "supreme commander MSVCR80.dll" gives a couple of solutions (eg uninstall and reinstall C++ runtime libraries, run some mods)... though tbh I only got it for nostalgia value so not sure I can be bothered going to those ends, oh well. Last edited by Mr Waffle: 12-30-2011 at 12:34 AM. |

Just got it to work using advice from this thread. Go to where the SupremeCommander.exe is (for me it's H:\Steam\SteamApps\common\supreme commander\bin ), right click -> properties -> compatibility -> tick the box to run it in compatibility mode for windows XP.
Also worth trying to run it or Steam as Administrator. |

I had the same problem. I was playing Supreme Commander earlier in 2012, then all of a sudden, it wouldn't launch.
I too received the msvcr80.dll error, in the application log. I run Windows 7 x64. Here's what I did to fix it: I installed all Windows updates (even optional ones for compatibility). I reinstalled Microsoft C++ 2005 redistributable for x64 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=21254 Then I went to this folder: C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\supreme commander\bin I right clicked 'supremecommander.exe' and select 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' Windows suggested Windows XP SP 2. Before hitting next, I hit the button 'Run Program'. It asked for Administrative Privileges twice, then it worked! I then hit 'Next' and said, 'Yes, save these settings for future use'. I do not know why this didn't work for some. Maybe C++ 2005 redistributable, or the optional Windows compatibility updates did the trick? |

I had a similar problem with SC1 not running on my Vista. I Right clicked the entire folder in etc./steam/common/Supreme Commander folder and it was selected as READ ONLY. So after switching that off the game booted up!

Simply setting it's Compatibility Mode to Windows XP SP3 made it boot for me (running Windows 7 Professional 64).

I hope this helps others with supreme commander not loading problems.
After uninstalling c++, and I'm talking about all of them (computer had versions from 95 which were uninstalled), the game then ran without a hitch. Just for giggles I've installed microsoft visual c++ 2011 (After uninstalling it and the other versions and launching the game to see if that was the problem). The game is running just fine for me now
