Unhappy Cheat engine and unsuccessfully ended hl2.exe instance

Messed up bad today.
Anyway, I was messing around with visual C++, tried finding out what kept causing a bug(unrelated, don't ask) in a small game I tried making. So I launched up cheat engine, and something crashed, ctrl+shift+esc to make sure it closed, and then I noticed that HL2.exe was still running.

The HL2.exe is a source sdk base 2007 instance from a mod I was playing. I did NOT connect to any servers, however there is a bsp based background, which in turn, may have enabled secure mode. Yet again, HL2 was not really running. So basically, what I am asking is Will I be VAC banned due to the HL2.exe process not fully ending?

Quick list of things:
1) I was using cheat engine for DEBUGGING purposes on MY OWN game.
2) HL2.exe was not visible on screen, it was running in the background.
3) I did not connect to a server.
4) HL2.exe was running a modification instance.
5) I did not hook cheat engine to hl2.exe, infact, I didn't hook it to anything at the time.
VALVe's fault for making hl2.exe not fully exit.

Until I get some post, I am scared to death about being vac'd because I just got 8 more games today. :|

unless you joined a vac server, you won't be banned.

You need to hook a memory editor into game proccess executable (hl2.exe in your case) to get banned. If you don't, you okay then.
And yes, of course, you need to join VAC-secured server...

Doesn't the IDE you use for Visual C++ come with it's own debugger software? That would be a million times more helpful than cheat engine, as it will actually keep track of variable names and contents, rather than just memory addresses.

Thats what they said to me to. Just don't use it at all. I got vacced for having it on my pc. I used to use it for bypassing downloading timers on download websites so you basicly hook up to as example FireFox.exe and enable speedhack. That will speed up the waiting time

But yeah i removed the dang thing. Also the finny thing is nobody believes me they all think that i am stupid. Infact I am not stupid and going to use Cheat Engine 5.0 from 2 years ago and cheat with that in css. We all know that will cause a instance ban becuase Cheat Engine is detected and public -.-

sorry, but I am using steam for quite a few years and have cheat engine quite a few years and I am not vac banned. Having it on the system does nothing as long as you don't use it.

I seem to remember your post about that. I was reading it just the other day, and your story was completely different. Anyways it isn't relevant in this thread and it doesn't surprise me that you lie. To the OP, you should be fine as long as Cheat Engine was NOT attached to the HL2.exe process.

Edit: I forgot I saved it. Here it is: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2752553

VAC bans only affect muliplayer games if you use a known cheat while engauged in a secure multiplayer game (even on your own PC without other players).

A. You weren't in a secure multiplayer game.
B. You didn't hook the process.

Therefore you should not get banned. If however your a lying, telling us lies does not remove an automated ban, no matter if you have video evidence that it was the neighbours cat that launched cheat engine and hooked it to the hl2.exe .

P.S. If it was the neighbours cat and you do have video evidence, I can sell that video for a great many times the value of your games. PM me
