Unhappy running like poop (HELP!)

first, my specs:
AMD phenom II X6 1100T @3.00 GHz
ATI 5850
and 8 gigs of ddr3 ram

ok, i started up arma 2:OA and i go into the options and put everything on normal and i matched my 3d res with my screen res(1920x1200).

and the game runs HORRIBLY, i get like 20 fps and i also put down the view distance to like 1000, still runs bad.

any help?

Post Processing is probably one of the bigger drains on performance. I usually disable mine and leave most settings on Normal/High even with a 580GTX. You can set the resolution to something smaller and have the game scale it you your monitor's resolution, but it doesn't look quite as good as the real thing.

I am having same issue the game isn't even let me set the texture detail and video memory beyond Normal and I thought once you purchased ARMA 2 it added high and very high to those options.

i put my res to 1920x 1080 and that seemed to help out. but no matter what my other settings are, if they are on low ot very high, there is a difference of like 2 frames.

i hear keeping video memory on default may be better than very high if you have more than 512mb of vram.

you can try -cpucount=6 in the launcher parameters. sounds to me like it might not be using all your cores.

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/A...tup_Parameters of course you have to set these somehow and that may be a problem with steam - hence I use a desktop shortcut that I created with six updater (which you can also use to launch your game if you want).

It's because of threads like this that I am refusing to pay full price for this game...

I only want it to try the mod, but it's the reports of really poor performance that are putting me off the most.

some of it is the mod though, its still in alpha, thats ALPHA, not beta or RC, bare bones alpha.

its rugged and has some serious performance issues that are in part due to the arma 2 engine.

give it some time it'll get better, the last week has been hotfix hell, lots of disappearing items and the pending hotfix is going to wipe tents (1.7.1.5)

i've joined servers with the wrong version of dayz and it lags really badly.

it may just be a compatibility issue, sure you guys have beefy computers but remember arma was made like 3 years ago, not that long, but in technology years thats lots, enough time for a game to become incompatible with certain hardware.

i have a budget rig so i'm getting an ok play experience, Dayz is still awry though, you will get frustrated by the bugs and glitches.

the best thing i can suggest is to go over to the BI forum or the Dayz forum and see if any of the tech heads over there can give you some pointers.

well i did some tweaking and ran the benchmarks on very high and here are my benchmark results, 1 i got 31, 2 i got a 16, and the last one i got 29.

i did some custom settings, and i got 1 to 60, 2 to 21, and the last one is 57

does that sound right for my specs?

Useful stuff:
Set ATOC to 0 in Arma2OA.cfg at My documents.
OC cpu more.
Set object detail as low as u can and start rising it when possible.
Disable PP and AA.
Defrag ur HDD or get a SDD.
Place ur pagefile to some other drive than C: or Arma2 hdd.
Experiment in the Arma2 Editor with the settings.
