Pathfinding issues in Windows 7
I own the retail version of MTWII. I have applied the patches. ( How can I see what version I am running ? ) I just finished playing the Tutorial campaign under Windows 7 and I noticed a few annoying pathfinding / AI issues on the battle screen. I don't recall those problems playing Rome Total war, but my OS was XP at that time.
Is there any chance these issues are related to Windows 7 ? * Battering ram rotating from side to side instead of advancing towards gate * Assigning multiple units to attack the enemy in the town square leads to bottleneck.... Archers will stop when they get in range and block the path of all friendly units behind them. My calvary / infantry will not pass through the friendly archers UNLESS I assign each unit attack orders individually. Dig |

I think this is "normal" and unrelated to OS version. I too did notice that and then went looking for an explanation. It appears that city battles (and battles in narrow spaces) lead to "broken formations" and then your units cannot charge properly. This leads to "cluttering", battles lasting longer than they should and you taking more casualties than you should have. It sucks (and certainly it wasn't like that on Rome) but it's "normal".
One workaround that works most of the time is to send your units to move behind (and through) the enemy formation and when they are getting through, click to attack. The AI appears to not have this problem. It can charge even in high traffic situations... sucks hard, I know. |

Medieval 2 has however improved tremendously since i played it retail. Could be better though. But we're already at Rome 2. Too bad they don't support the game anymore, would be great if they kept at it...oh well here's to the inevitable Medieval 3. |
