How to Mod?

Hey all, so I downloaded the SDK for Alien Swarm, and I was hoping to create my own Mod. However, I have no idea where to even begin. Do I need any special program in order to mod the game?

I'm not looking to change sounds or anything, I'm looking to create a sub-game, so to speak. Kind of like that Aiur Chef from Starcraft III.

Sounds like your looking mostly to just do level design for AS. So the 'special program' would be Hammer. This forum is for getting help if you actually decide to alter the game's programming. I'm sure there's an Alien Swarm forum that may yield better results for you.

Right, right. While this is true (I am making a map), I am trying to change some stuff around. Not so much the sounds or anything. My changelog as of right now is:

-Two teams of 4, spawning on opposite sides of the map
-Weapon changes (Grenade launcher causing bleeding damage instead of a massive hit, and you have to hold Shift (Crouch) in order to shoot the Minigun)
-Weapon drops (A-La any shooter ever)

Stuff like that.

Sorry, I didn't clarify myself the first time

Ah, so then you'll want to get Visual C++ 2010 Express, it's free.
