My good friend is turning 50 this year, and plays Deus Ex HR compulsively. Portal, with his 15 year old daughter.

I'm 45, I can't wait to continue my gaming spree with new releases.

Remember that most of the people MAKING the games you young'uns like are MY AGE. They're almost always going to be a full generation older than the kids who get the benefits of growing up with the stuff.

50? Try 42. And it's not even video games. It's just the new ones. And by new, I mean "Super Mario Bros" for the NES

Some parents teach their small children to play Portal 2 (I know someone like this).
Some parents are more into the game than their children. (I also know someone like this)
MY dad thinks video games rot your brain. And my mom is the exact opposite of a computer geek, and thinks GLaDOS is highly disturbing. It would be amusing to teach her to play…

GLaDOS IS highly disturbing. That's part of what makes the game fun!

She fits so well in with the other era-based sci fi robotic badness that people my age enjoyed. Not just HAL9000, I'm talking the gunslinger from Westworld, Proteus from Demon Seed, and the like. She's classic.

Exactly! Everyone except my parents agree that she's the most awesome thing ever…

Unrelated topic: How old can the last post on a thread be before you get yelled at for bumping it?

A couple of years ago wasn't there a Christian minister in news that was claiming that GLaDOS was symbolic of satin and that Valve was promoting the coming of the anti-Christ.

^^ Was joking of course. Its generally considered bad forum manners to going around correcting other's spelling and grammar, unless its so sloppy that it is hard to understand what the person is saying. For a lot gamers English is a second language, so it its going to be understandable that mistakes will occur.

What I really dislike is when a gamer thinks its cool to write every in "texting" something like

"i no what u r saying, and i 2 i'm looking 4-ward 2 the next game"

Don't forget that minister that was claiming that BARNEY was also the embodiment of Satan (it was something like that)

Darn it! Well, mods still get to use the neurotoxin emitters, right?

Didn't they have a Barney burning too? Created a huge bonfire and threw stuff barneys on to it. It was on the news and upset a lot of little kids who happen to see the news, watching grown men and women burn something they considered a harmless friend.

Yes but that's acceptable because Barney the Dinosaur was horrifying. It should teach those children something far more important than "hugging". It should teach them "people are often insane".

I agree - nothing that kids are being taught today prepares them for the real world. Not in school or on TV, not even most parents. Too sheltered... as I type there is a 44 cal Glock with it's clip sitting next to it on the table next to me, which also has a razor blade on it... judging by some things I've seen, most kids would pick it up and shoot things or themselves with it..
