What I'm Up To

Here's what I'm currently up to, in between getting married and contracting norovirus (oh joy):

Ultratron 3.0 - now beginning to be awesome
360 controller support for UT and TA
Keyboard and controller support for the UIs
Steam friend leaderboards for UT and TA
Patching minelayers in TA to make them less annoying
Patching addon weapon firing rate code
Fixing shop bug in TA
Fixing slowdown bug in RotT (affected all our games!)

Mostly what I'm doing is Ultratron though, because that's got all the groundwork in for half the other work in it anyway. One reason it takes me a while to get a patch out for a game is because they all use the same code and releasing patches is often not so much about just uploading builds but also doing rather thorough testing. It's a miserably lengthy process.

So: when Ultratron 3.0 is finished you're likely to see some TA patches, but not before. Those people waiting on those 5 achievements will hopefully realise a) they're really not important in the grand scheme of things and b) they will be automatically applied the moment you fire up the patched version anyway. So your trophy cabinet will be sorted.

In other news I'm trying to help out the Project Zomboid guys who are having all manner of woes with their game, mostly on account of being completely clueless It's a miracle they've even released anything working! But I'll soon get them back on track.

You are awesome, your games are fantastic.

Thank you for your work on Project Zomboid. When they posted you were helping we felt a LOT better.

Aha! Someone noticed I posted!

Your reward is a status update.

Yesterday I added controller support to Titan Attacks, added several different keyboard layout options (all simultaneously available - should satisfy nearly everyone), verified the fix for the boss achievements (and made sure it gave me all the achievements I'd missed), fixed the bomb dropping issue on later levels, and added the cool PAL monitor CRT distortion and scanline effect that we've put in to Ultratron. I'm going to leave the way the addon weapons fire as they are for now after a bit of consideration because in 6 years there's only been one complaint about it.

Also we got most of the second boss in Ultratron working; it's got two armoured 6-pod missile launchers on its sides - whirrrrr FAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAP whiirrr BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM! Two boses down; two more to go. And I put in the new Nerfroid Challenge stages which occur every 9 levels; the Nerfroid Challenge is like the Spidroid Challenge except you're not allowed to shoot! (Though you can). Also the Nerfroids turn to actively try and hit you. It's called the "Dodge Challenge".

Project Zomboid is currently held up with a curious rendering bug. So far they're using the Puppygames sound engine and the guts of the Puppygames sprite engine This is good. What is bad is that somewhere along the way when they hacked out the bits of the sprite engine that they wanted some teeny error has crept in and it renders sprites black occasionally, which manifests itself onscreen as random black flickering (the black sprites change every frame). It's proving very hard to track because a) I'm not directly working on the source code and b) poor old Lemmy is hopelessly clueless about Java and OpenGL. I hope he's fixed it by the time Rezzed comes along because otherwise I'll be meeting him in person (for the first time!) and beating him around the head with some sort of large wet fish.

Excellent news. I'm really looking forward to Ultratron and double thumbs up for the pad support in TA.

Chaz has just finished boss 3 of 4 and is starting on the last boss. I've done a selection of suitably demoralising taunts and mockery that the bosses utter.

After that it's some UI polish, a few more robot types, and then loads of tuning. Maybe a couple of extra shader effects.

No. I just installed and launched it, but didn't get the achievements (Cas said we'd instantly get them upon launch once the patch is on).
