Beldurra (WIP) dev notes & screenshots

In an effort to tap the interest of the Steam forum regulars, I'm mirroring my post from L4DMaps regarding the development of my custom campaign, "Beldurra".

Progress update! Version 2.0 COMING Q3 2012.
Want to playtest? Hit me up on Steam. Let's do this.

Map 1: Updated!
- Improved NAV
- Added/cleaned up some Director tips
- Slightly increased likelihood of shortcut being open (the fence near the grocery store tunnel is sometimes broken to allow the survivors to bypass the car explosion panic event).
- Improved optimization
- New details

Map 2: COMPLETELY REDESIGNED
- Lots of interactive elements and risk/reward scenarios! Now you can pick the locks of many of the houses. Fill molotovs at fuel barrels, build pipe bombs in a vigilante's workshop, electrify the water near a power switching station, and use light switches in several locations.
- Includes dynamically-driven events! One particular event makes a quick check of your team and then determines what to throw at it depending on how healthy/well-equipped they are. Horde? Tank bursting from the clock tower? Both? Neither? All possible, and determined in part by how well your team is performing.

Map 3: Redesign begun
- The plan: the survivors will cause an explosion at a riverside boat rental place that will cause the dock to separate. The survivors will ride the floating dock downriver until it becomes stuck. They'll then have to cut through a cemetery to a compound near a salvage lot.
The plan for the compound's finale components are still a little up in the air, but the "end game" will include a slow-closing door. Anyone caught outside the door when it latches shut is immediately left for dead, similar to when a player restarts the generator in the finale of "The Sacrifice".

A nod to the "Save Your Neighbors" location in map 1.

A little more about that: Save Your Neighbors is a brand I made up several years ago for my Etsy shop. I was selling novelty first-aid kits with vials of "serum" (blacklight-responsive, clear-greenish goo) as Zombie Anti-Bite Kits. The "No Zombies" logo was drawn by the same co-worker who drew the "Save Your Neighbors" store sign for Beldurra. Here's a shot of the bite kit:

I plan to give away a bunch of those stickers when Beldurra v2 is released.

Two in-game locations modeled after real-world places near me:

More to come!

Map 3 redesign has started! The finale is being changed to the following series of events:

- Survivors reach a boathouse
- An explosion sends the floating dock drifting downriver
- Survivors must ride it like a raft and defend from incoming infected.
- Once they touch back down on land, the survivors must get inside a compound and flip a switch to lower the (slow) gate. Anyone caught outside when the gate closes and seals is left for dead.

Screenshots to follow!
