Lightbulb SOLUTION TO "no entry 'bin\config.bin/cfgingameui/mptable.shadow'"

alright so after searching for hours for a bunch of seemingly useless solutions to this error, i finally figured out the foolproof answer to fix this (hopefully).

the error "no entry 'bin\config.bin/cfgingameui/mptable.shadow'" popped up (for me) whenever i tried to run ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead. ARMA 2 worked fine, this error only occured for OA (meaning if you get this error for regular ARMA 2, this may or may not help. i havent tested it, dont blame me if it screws up your files). keep in mind i bought the Steam version: ARMA 2: COMBINED OPERATIONS which includes both ARMA 2 and OA.

if you're here i assume that means you've tried everything else you've seen (putting ARMA 2 files over the OA folder, reinstallation, delete OA.cfg, etc).

you've probably seen a lot of people post "close steam, right click and reopen as admin, works every time" and you've probably also seen people post "i do that and it doesnt help / i still get the error". if you're one of those people, here's a little advice.

first thing to do is uninstall ARMA 2OA. ***to uninstall, go to the Library tab where your games are, right click on ARMA 2OA, go to the bottom where it says properties, click on it, click on the LOCAL FILES tab, and click DELETE LOCAL GAME CONTENT... and hit yes. it's not advised to just delete the folder out of your steamapps\common folder, because for me that just made it say "the game is unavailable" because it probably thinks the game still exists. although, if there are any corrupt files that you know are in there, make sure those are removed. if you bought the Steam version of these games like i did, this should not be the case.*** if your Arma 2 already works fine and you're able to open it and get to the main menu, you wont need to uninstall that too.

open up your task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and by default it should show you the tab under Applications near the top. click over to Processes and scroll down to "Steam.exe*32". highlight it and click end process. it may give you a warning of some sort, click yes to it and make sure that the process disappears. wait a few minutes to make sure it syncs up and NOW you should be able to right click Steam and reopen as admin. make sure that it gives the prompt "connecting to :yoursteamusername:" or whatever it is first; if it opens up to the store tab immediately, you've done it wrong. now reinstall your Arma 2OA. if you uninstalled Arma 2 as well, make sure you install that one first just to be safe, not both at the same time.

finally, once these are installed, go back to steam (if you closed out of it at any time, you need to go back to the task manager and close out of it and reopen in admin) and click over to the Library tab with all your games. right click on ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead and go down to the very bottom where it says properties. there'll be 4 tabs, click LOCAL FILES. now click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE... . after that is done, run ARMA 2, make sure you can get to the main menu, then close out BUT DONT CLOSE STEAM, and then finally run ARMA 2OA.

that should do it, folks! this is what worked for me, and i really hope that this helped anyone else encountering this problem. if this did not solve your problem, please post ITT with a description of what you did and maybe i can help you out.

I really hope people don't actually do that...it's unnecessary!

Sorry that you had to find the solution the hard way, but it's to do with the DayZ folder. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead and delete the DayZ folder there, verify the game cache, and run. That should work. After you have done the initial setup, then you can install DayZ.

this is before i installed the dayz folder. this is for vanilla ARMA 2OA. DayZ had nothing to do with anything in the solution i had. in fact, when i posted this thread, i had only just heard of the mod. i have since installed it with no problems.

although i find it kinda funny that ARMA 2 and OA are automatically associated with DayZ. just goes to show how little importance vanilla ARMA 2 has in comparison to the mod, which has single handedly caused people to buy the game just to play that, who have not even tried the boot camp missions of the actual vanilla game.

Got the issue (without DayZ)
Deleting content is overkill.

What I did:
- NTFS ACL recursive cleanup (total control for users & administrators) for Steam and its sub-directories
- Steam as admin:
- Validate Arma 2 then OA
- Launch Arma 2 then OA

Now works without being admin ( at least to the menu ).

Remember that when things get messy and works as admin, it's probably an NTFS ACL issue.

Thanks! This worked for me, except I didn't even have to run Steam as admin. I just had to apply the total control for users ACLs to everything in the Steam folder.

You spelt RESTART STEAM wrong, it doesn't have that many letters...

Don't need to run Steam as admin. Do this:

- go to where your Steam folder is
- right click on Steam folder
- click Properties
- click Security tab
- click Advanced
- click Change Permissions

? Is there a "Users (<machine>\Users)" with "<not inherited>"

if yes
{
- click "Users (<machine>\Users)" with "<not inherited>"
- click Edit...
}
or if no
{
- click Add...
- type "Users"
- click OK
}

- next to Full Control click the Allow box
- click OK a few times to get all the way out
- done

Does this work for you?

This works! AND you only need to do it once if it is a fresh install. subsequent start up of steam does NOT need to be in admin mode.
