Creating a server within the game
Hey. I'm trying to create a server using the create a server button that lies on the browse servers button. I just wanted a server for me and my friends to play on but for some reason it gets stuck at retrieving game data. Any help?
Thanks in advance. |

I dont know how to fix your problem, except the create server button only allows you to make a LAN server, meaning that only people in your own house (on your network) can play on your server, so even if you get past that problem you have, then you'd better hope that your friends have laptops and can come to your place.

Oooh I see, thanks that rules out the whole thing lol. I wanted friends in their own houses to connect to a private lobby, is that hard to setup or a guide you can give me to view?

sv_password <yourpassword> map <whatever map you want to play> Get your friends to enter: connect <yourip>; password <yourpassword> Oh, and if you're on a router, make sure your ports are forewarded. |

Yes, just make sure the ports are forwarded and the server is lan 0. Should show up in a minute or less, thats how long mine takes.

How do I then close the server?
I used the ~ console key but it doesn't work. I'm in the main menu. edit: Okay I figured it out and used those commands in the console, now I add the server and put my ip but no servers show up/nothing shows up that I can connect to. Last edited by iceycold: 07-13-2012 at 05:33 PM. |

Replace cp_dustbowl with the map that you are currently on. |

I can't even get in the map though. I do the commands and went to whatsmyip.org and added a server to my favorites with that IP but it doesn't show up in my favorites list.

According to http://portforward.com you need these open in firewalls/router.
- 3478-4380,27000-27050 That site will help you with picture guides on how to even forward them for the game/router, just need to browse for it. Also you need an ip and port, not just ip for connecting to servers. - You say your having trouble getting in the map? But you should already be in it.. Do this stuff in this order. - port forwarding - in tf2's console sv_lan 0 - map ctf_2fort - you should now be inside your server ![]() - when you randomly search for servers, it should be the very first/top one to show up.. just make sure you sort via ping and give it a minute *but its pretty quick on getting it listed* |

I figured out getting into my server. I have the IP for the server, but not the port.
My friends are using this in the console to connect to it: Get your friends to enter: connect <yourip>; password <yourpassword> They are getting failed after 4 re-tries error. |
