Smile Very honest question

Ok, so this is my first time posting in this section of forums. I have been neglecting from buying games like SH and RE, but Ive decided to finally buy a few of one or the other. So, my question is what are the differences between Silent Hill and Resident Evil? Ive seen tons of videos for each, and they both have a great feel for them, but im sure that each one has to have something that makes it better than the other, and something that makes it worse than the other. All I know, is theat RE focus on lots of zombies and mutated humans, etc and they are pretty much in the open, or dont jump out of no where. For SH, they seem to be more disturbing looking, and have a good chance of suprising people. Also, SH is a mind thriller, where as RE is more of a mind dweller (if that makes sense).

So, could I get some honest and fair feedback between the two games? Much appreciated

Well, traditionally, the Silent Hill series is a horror series, while the Resident Evil series is... I dunno, somewhere bewteen comedy and action, really. Silent Hill branched more and more away from it's traditional: "utterly helpless protagonist who can't even aim a gun" as it progressed, while Resident Evil seemed to pull away from "Zombies" utterly and end up with a nearly Cuthulu/Alien-esque style Virus that no longer makes people the undead, but makes people pretty much whatever the pot addled minds who wrote the game thought was cool at the time.

Both SH and RE are great, fun games in their own right. To sterotype them, SH will have you trying to unravel the twisted inner mind of the avatar you take on as they fight for survival in a town riddled by inner demons, while RE will have you battling the latest, almost religious attempts by the Umbrella coperation and it's series of freakish founders as they attempt to unleash the latest strain of their super virus on a (somehow, still...) unsuspecting populace.

By the ends of both games, you'll be asking yourself the following questions:

Silent Hill: "Why do people still GO here?! They should put up a freaken sign or something! 'Warning: S*** is f***ed up here!' or something similar."

Resident Evil: "What is this company DOING?! They hire midgets, physcos and cross dressing lunatics to make super viruses that they just dump on civillians!? How do they turn a profit!? What is their market share!?"

That sounds pretty fair and just. I just got of the phone with a friend of mine, and he described it as simply, SH = "Whats that noise, whats the thing, whats that faceless nurse doing? WHAT THE F*** IS GOING ON????" while RE = "Whats that over over there? Zombie dog? zombie farmer? zombie fish? Where are all of these mutant zombies coming from?"

With the steam sell, I think Im going o go with the latest silent hill game. And one more question, of all of the past SH's, which one was the best, in terms of story and plot? I love a god game, but a good story can make a good game, a great game.

I gotta throw my lot behind Silent Hill 1... I know, I know. The graphics look like someone puked pixles onto the screen, the main chracter seems clueless, but the game managed to scare me when I was younger and playing it on the old PS1 just because of how helpless I felt, even when fully armed. The game NEVER gave me the feeling of being so well armed that I could handle the next encounter, even when it was encounters I knew well and I had secret, hidden weapons like the Katana.

Silent Hill 2 and 3 are the best to me. The original's a classic, but the low-poly models really do take something out of it. That and the voice acting, which gets genuinely good in 2. 3 is a direct story sequel to 1, though (where 2 isn't really related at all), so it's good to play the first to have some background. Everything after 3 is pretty bad - though I haven't played Downpour. Homecoming's probably the best of a bad lot, so you could do worse.

Haff the zhoul izh loss. Dhat izh why the zheed liesh dorman.

This whole scene rivals Resident Evil 1 for voice acting and writing.

(Too confusing to be spoilers, for anyone concerned.)
