3D Modeling and hammer

I can't seem to find this anywhere else, so here goes.
I've created a model, compiled it successfully, and can find it in Hammer's model browser, but I cannot for the life of me figure out the folder structure for materials. Always pink and black. Does anyone here happen to know what said hierarchy would look like?

Thanks in advance.

It's been a long time since i did this, but first, are you getting any errors from studio model after you compile?

In your qc file, whatever you have listed here:

$cdmaterials "YourModelFolder\"

will act your subdirectory inside the materials folder, e.g.:

cstrike\materials\yourmodelfolder

It's not any more complicated than that. Obviously make sure your materials(vmt & vtf) exist your materials directory

If all else fails, try copying the materials to your materialsrc directory, e.g.:

steamapps\username\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mater iallsrc\yourmodel folder.

Good luck! =)

Nope, that solved it. I use 3ds Max for my models.

For better references, use wallworm tools. They're the best 3ds max tools to convert 3ds model into hammer's readable file in a fraction of time.

I have them, but every time I try to export materials/models, it tells me the directories I've set don't exist, even though I can navigate to them.

Many people have sent me emails about this, not to mention posted in forums. Generally speaking, this almost always comes down to misconfiguration of the tools in one of two places:

Full Path settings in the global settings that should always be pointed to a root asset source folder in the SDK; and Relative Paths that are just fragments of paths in the WWMT UI.

To help people, I updated the global settings functions recently to automate the process of setting the global (full paths) for many mods and made it a little easier to understand.

If you load the most recent version of WW and then share screen shots of your settings UI as well as the WWMT UI, I may be able to help you.

Sorry for the late reply.

I'm thinking it may be due to the fact it's on an external drive.

Then again I know almost nothing of WWMT's internal functions, so I'm probably wrong.

No matter what variation of directories I've tried, it still reports to me that they don't exist.

The problem is in the Model Folder Path and Material Folder Path. Those two directories (in both the WWMT UI and the similar oned for defaults in the WW Settings middle section) must always be relative paths. Unlike the modelsrc and materialsrc paths which are full paths, the Model Folder Path should be something like mystuff/props or myprojects/thisproject/vegetation, etc. Same with Material Folder Path.

Hopefully that helps you understand it.
