Game crashes when character portraits are loaded

Whenever I play the demo, as soon as the first character portrait is loaded, the gray haired girl, the game crashes and gives me a "Recettear Demo V1.1 has stopped working." error.

My video card drivers are updated, so that's not an issue, but... What could it be?

It would help a lot if you provided some sort of details about your system. CPU, specific video card, OS, etc. It's a little difficult to diagnose a problem without any place to start from besides 'it crashed.'

Have you tried verifying the files or re-downloading?

i7 1.6ghz processor(Laptop)
NVidia gtx 240
Windows 7 64 bit
4 gigs of RAM
Realtek High Definition Audio

Yes, I tried both a clean install and a verification. A friend of mine said it may be due to 3d sound, but I'm not sure how to take care of that.

That's a pretty funky spec!
Have you installed the latest DirectX, Visual C++ 2008, NVIDIA driver and all that jazz? Do you use any tools like RivaTuner? It might be worth turning it off if you do.

I have the XONAR DX card and it crashed too, turning off the GX option stopped the crash

Can't help you with your sound card tho

Have the same problem.

i7 920
Radeon 5870
6 GB ram
Realtek HD Audio
Win server 2008 r2.

Updating drivers didn't solve it sadly.

Thanks a lot man, had a Xonar DG card and this fixed my issue.
