We're getting CS:GO. Maybe it's time to update DoD:S as well.

Just a shot in the dark here. Although CS:GO is still on Source Engine, which is already a strike against it. But how long has it been since DoD:S has had any kind of update that wasn't related to maintaining or tweaking the source engine?

I mean, it's not like people don't play this game.

They don't care about day of defeat or its community , asking for basic things like bug fixes . or a "GO version" its pointless

It's a shame. I put off getting this game for over a year for fear there would be no servers (these forums really are not an accurate depiction), finally got it during this sale, and have enjoyed it so far. It may not have the appeal of TF2 or CS, but DoD still has a pretty good group of servers seven years later. Compare that to most 7 year old shooters, and it seems to me that Valve is letting a potentially profitable (already established) franchise go by the wayside.

You go it in one, seems they want it to die off, if they had left it off orangebox it may have been better off, at least the server plugins and maps would still work.
But to upgrade it, break server plug-ins every other month and then leave it with see through walls for years on end!!! WTF?????

They are killing it slow, no idea why.

Oh... just saw that I still get a kick out of the brits on dod (old HL1 versions).

I would love to see what happens if you got these two guys, (plus Xerent) to drive the direction of an updated dods.
Those three made maps that got me addicted forever to dod. I have not gone a couple of months without at least playing them a few times... I get withdrawal symptoms and Sturmbot and dod are fired up.

Damn you Fuzzdad and Waldo you manufactured something worse than cocaine.

EDIT: BTW... I am having to use the real old versions (serria) ... Source Filmmaker (code named single player breaker?) may have broken HL1 single player games?

EDIT 2: Turns out it is the steam client beta doing this, delete, OPT out !!! Yay fixed!

.

It will happen most likely. Probably not until the release of HL3 though. Whenever that will be lol

Wanting and getting are two different things.

We have updates, Valve has had them for over two years...but, hasn't released them. What makes you think they'll do it now?

The only thing Valve will do is the occasional bug fix after an engine update, if it's extremely necessary.

Last time I wished an update for DoD:S I was incredibly disappointed with the Palermo update. I didn't (and still don't) like even the muzzleflash. The cons outweighed the pros on that update for me. So... yeah, I couldn't care less anymore.

You're very right the game still has a good following for being 7 years old. When I try to play CoD4/Black Ops/Red Orchestra 2 there's barely any servers/activity left and coming from 2007 on they're all newer games...

Day of defeat source is my favorite fps of all time, and its sad to see it lose players and attention from its makers. I can only hope that it somehow picks up players and valve make a new one, but the future of this lost gem looks bleak.
