Do the Myst games work on Win7?

I've been thinking about picking these up forever, but have been a little hesitant since I'm not sure how well they will work on 7.

Any input from the community?

Here's hoping Ubisoft eventually places the rest of the Myst series on steam.

Myst III: Exile
Myst IV: Revelation
Myst V: End of Ages

I can't speak for the Steam ones, but I know that the GOG ones do. I suspect that the Steam games are based on the same code as the GOG versions.

The storefront pages for all of the Myst games specifies them as "inofficially" supporting Windows 7. That is, except for Myst 1, but to be honest RealMyst is the better Myst 1 anyway.

Edit: Myst 1 DOES work on Win7, but not on 64-bit. There is a workaround for the GOG version here, but I'm not sure if the same will work for the Steam version.

These 3 not being part of the pack is what is keeping me from buying the pack seeing as those 3 and riven are the ones i haven't played at all. Still have the original Myst around here somewhere and have uru complete as well.

If they add these 3 to steam and release a Myst pack as well as official updates to support newer os' from the start i will buy it for sure. These have been games i have wanted to play for like 10 years now but cant never find them anywhere, but seeing as i have gone pretty much 100% steam for my pc games i don't know if i want to buy boxed copies of them any more.

I think calling it the "Complete Pack" is a little misleading given that half of the games that put Cyan on the map to begin with are missing. In fact, the only notable games in there are Myst, RealMyst and Riven.

Part of the problem I would imagine is that the first two games in the series were published by Sunsoft and later Cyan themselves, and this holds true for all of the digital releases. Exile, Revelation and End of Ages were all published by Ubisoft.

Windows 7 64 bit here... it runs, but none of the actual animation stuff seems to be working right. Probably related to the quick time file... too lazy to figure it out right now though.

Cyan only owns the rights to Myst, realMyst, Riven, Myst V, and Uru. EA owns 3 and 4.

Correction.....3 & 4 are still owned by Ubisoft, not E/A.

I have Win7/64bit Ultimate and both realMyst and Myst:Masterpiece Edition constantly crash. I have tried multiple compatibilty settings to no avail. Any ideas?

I just found this post #5 at mystcommunity.com about the masterpiece edition with lots of links, which looks like you basically install an older QT and copy required file(s) to the myst game folder and then install the newest QT so you can use it and good to go (or something like that).

Over at gog.com there's quite a lot of available help on that subject such as:

post #10 "So, to sum up, I'm using QuickTime version 7.7.2 with both the audio and video in safe mode, and I'm running Myst without checking "Run this program in compatibilty mode for" or "Run this program as an administrator". The only thing that I have checked is "Disable visual themes". I've made it through the whole game and only had two crashes in the Stoneship age."

And also this support page.

They might still crash now and then though. It might not be perfect but you should be able to improve the games stability over what it is now.

Course, you may be able to find the same stuff here as well and I assume they are both relatively the same versions to have the same fixes which is more than likely.

The biggest issue should be due to QuickTime.

Addition (DEC 16th 2012)

Just played and completed Myst3 Exile (discs) on Win7 64. Just install and run with compat for WinXP, run admin, and desktop comp. (If I remember correctly.)

Had tried it with the Win8 64 RP and the animations... well, the game was broken with the way they were. Don't know if that is indicative of Win8 64 RTM, but would think it probably is - or if even it wouldn't work just for me.
