I don't think so,that's the most absurd rumour i've ever read on the steam forums.

These games are old and still on top.
firstly, you should compare CSGO beta to dota2 beta, because CSGO is one of the least played games on steam. it has less players than CS:CZ, even though the CS franchise is the biggest thing valve has. 1.6 and CSS combined have over 100k active players every moment. that's much bigger than every other game on steam, while CSGO has about 1000 players . the dota2 devs listen to EVERYTHING the community says and update the game several times a week. why should the CSGO beta be treated like crap? the competitive CS community is drying out. it needs a renewal, but CSGO will not meet those demands.

secondly, it's not absurd to say that 1.6/CSS are dying. yes, the steam numbers are fine, but the competitive scene is drying out really hard. the consequences of this are hard to predict, but why release an extremely unaccepted game instead of changing the design philosophy and give the development more time? WHY? it makes no sense, even though you like the game. what does your opinion matter?

Comparison isn't really my thing,as long as i enjoy a game there's nothing more that needs to be discussed.

And Valve does look at the forums. As for "renewal",you better be kiddin' .. well except if we see "renewal" in different ways, idk ..

Again 1.6 was available on Steam in 2000,and it's STILL top, also cs:s is old as well and it's still on top.

Competitive scene is dying? You should do some research before saying that,a lot of gather communities (if you know what that is) are still there with a lot of people active.

A lot of clans are out there as well, not only top clans like SK,FX and fnatic but clans we've never even heard of.

Last year there was a tournament in Romania with the greatest .ro clans, stuff like that happen in other countries as well.

i dont have to research how active the competitive scene is. i just look at the leagues/ladders and compare them to the time when i was actively playing. 1.6 is really close to competitive death, while CSS is a bit more alive, but not too much. also, both games basically have no major lan events anymore right now .

gather communities, lol. even quake has active gather communities, yet the game is completely dead

I can't say if you know what you're talking about or not, that being said i don't see anything wrong with gather communities since there are thousands of people still active.

If a game has gather communities, that means its dead. I used to play a game called Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2(amazing game btw :P). It has a gather community, and it's very dead lol.

People forget just how big 1.6 was during its prime. There hasn't been a game as big as 1.6 in years, other than WoW I guess. I think the problem might just be that 1.6 was created by a group of guys that just loved playing games, not a corporation that loves making money. Sure, the 1.6 creators made money, but def. not at first. What's missing in CS:GO, and pretty much all other games today, is the genuine desire to create an amazing gaming experience. Now, the dev's look at CS:GO and think, is it worth the investment to change X, or will we make enough money without adding/changing X? Can't make an amazing game like that.

well, it's a fact that both 1.6 and CSS have no real major event support right now.

and there's of course nothing wrong with gather communities, but they dont indicate if a game is alive or not. gather communities are usually the last way of people to still find higher level matches, even though the game is competively dead.

Gather is a more competitive way of playing cs than joining a random public server (similar to a clan match),it doesn't certainly mean that a game is dead.

Also,i gotta join a match now so see ya later.

yea, guess that's the only point nubula was wrong about. the existence of gather communities doesn't mean that the game is dead . but on the other hand, it also doesn't mean that the game is alive and kicking, like you tried to say.

ps: jedi knight was amazing
