Hp Heirloom bug

So I inadvertently encountered this bug just now. I've just bought the game recently, so I'm hoping one of the veterans can answer this one for me.

Search results show that eventually this bugged item will give you negative health and kill you instantly when equipped.

Does this mean the character is just perpetually dead? Since you can't unequip items while dead. And I'm guessing as soon as you respawn you die again. And if this happens, does it mean I'll just have to start a new character? And I'm going to lose all my items in my storage chest?

I was at half hp but I figured the up coming level up would heal me to full so I didn't worry about it. Upon level up, instead of being healed I was dropped to very low hp. I immediately panicked and drank a health potion. This caused the second funny thing to happen, the health potion didn't heal much of my hp. I hovered my mouse over the hp bar to see how much I had, around 13000. Now hp isn't one of the stats I pay much attention to so I had no idea what my hp was supposed to be but 13000 seemed a little high. Checking the items in my inventory found that my heirloom'd ring suddenly gave +12000 hp.

Yup, one of the triggers on the heirloom hp bug is leveling up. When that bonus goes too high it will put you into negative health (the game will stop being fun long before that), and you will be unable to resurrect long enough to remove the item. If it's jewelry I'd suggest putting the item onto your pet, otherwise you have to ditch it as there is no way to fix it.

As for the storage chest, anything in shared storage (top of town) will continue to exist, but if you have negative HP you can't access the personal stash in the center of town.

Oh that's a good idea, my dog keeps deciding to stand in fire or get spiked, giving him 12k health would help him out.

Shame too, I really liked that ring for the +70 damage enchantment.

Okay don't panic, you don't need to throw that ring away. You can continue to use the ring for this character and can pass it onto other characters via the shared stash, however do not pass it on via heirlooming. Heirlooming an item with HP multiple times may lead to the item having so may HP that it kills your character to wear it. However it is perfectly safe to wear an item with 12,000+ HP.

You seem to be missing the point: The bug makes it so the amount of HP on that ring will continue to grow as he plays, not as he heirlooms it (although that will make it go faster I suspect). It jumped up to 12k hp because he leveled up, not when he heirloomed it. If he keeps it on his character it will exponentially grow until the character is doomed.

No. I played the game through a number of times and heirloomed several items and experienced this bug more than once. As long as you do not enchant or heirloom the item again you'll be fine.

I shall concede on the grounds that you've played with the bug more than I have, and most of my information is based upon people giving bug reports with likely less-than-complete information as to what happened to them.
