Do something very basic for me please, head over to systemsrequirementlabs and use the Can You Run It feature to analyze your machine. It is not precise, but it should help to see if your machine runs this game properly as is, or if there's an issue with, say, shaders, or acceleration or whatever.

I've never had to do this myself but have you tried deleting the clientregistry.blob file in your steam folder, and letting it recreate one? I don't have ANY idea if that would help here, but it's not likely to hurt at this point.

Nope.
I used drivers that previously worked with portal 2.
I even used the first drivers that supported my hd6970
Didnt work.
As a matter of fact, i was playing portal 2 just fine with the video card drivers i was using, it was working flawless.
Then they added the update which supported mods and it made the game crash.
The update broke the game.

well your chipset should be from AMD if you say that.
The reason why im asking is that im waiting now for 5 month and still no real solution for my problem.

I spent too much time in trying to solve this. And always i read the same. The chipsset or motherboards have some issues.

So you can go to your motherboard producer "asrock" and look for some updates.

Admins told me to flash my bios and many people said that it has fixxed the portal 2 problem bei installing a new bios version.

But i do not recommend this. It should be your last way.
I've tried but there were some issue and my PC didnt worked after that.
So use this just by your own risk.

I didnt fixxed my problem so i cannot say this works for 100% but more than 10 people said it fixxed it.Also Admin from Steam support said to me i should do that because there are some issues in different kind of motherboards.

I hope i could help a bit.
But think of flashing your BIOS.

Greetings,

Tyrox

PS: I hope there is an other solution for you. Best Luck!

I figured I should chime in here too, I've had the same problem since I bought the game 2-3-ish months ago and would also like a fix, Free bump.

I got the same problem with my new pc, which has an AMD FX 8120 processor and a ATI Radeon HD 7850 video card and an ASUS M5A motherboard.
The game ran just fine with my laptop, which was an Intel i7 + Radeon Mobility HD 5870.
It just freezes and restarts my computer, i am unable to get past the main menu.
