Dirt 2 - GFWL questions
I hate GFWL with a passion. And I avoid it for the most part unless I am aware of how bad it is on the game I am interested in. So I am curious how bad is it in this game?
As the steam store is vague with it. Will I be harassed to type in a code just to start the game? only when I select the multiplayer portion, will I be asked to type in the code? Do I need to type in the code and then be logged in, in order to save my progress? Any other obnoxious thing GFWL does that I may not be aware of? Or am I better off just buying a console version of this game. Any and all help is appreciated guys. Thanks in advance. |

code is necessary to play, but you can run in Offline mode. I have had no issues with the GFWL system, but that is my experience only.

I never had any problems with GFWL and DiRT2. I also have an Xbox360, so all I had to do on PC was login to my preexisting account when booting up the game.
It pulled all my info from my Xbox account, and any achievements I got during gameplay on PC were applied to my 360 profile, too. If you don't have a 360 or a Live account, I can definitely understand it being annoying at first, but after creating a Live ID it only requires an additional 5 seconds to login while booting up the game. No headaches anywhere else that I encountered. Also, at 75% off, this game is a STEAL. It's my favorite racing game. Perfect mix of simulation and arcade. Multiplayer is still poppin', too! EDIT: I should share that I never played the game in "offline mode." Never had any reason to. Last edited by AugustSecond: 07-24-2012 at 05:09 PM. Reason: Addition |

I don't know what the big deal is about GFWL. I have had no problems with it.

Same here too. Never had any problems with GFWL. All my GFWL games works great and shows up on my Xbox360 as PC games and even my xbox live app on my ipad/iphone.
It takes what...5 seconds to enter cdkey and I'm in the game. Some games will want a update which takes no more than a few minutes at most. I can understand for those who don't have a xbox360 would be confused. Simply create a live account at live.com and login to that on GFWL. Because it is a Microsoft account, it will be linked to all other Microsoft services like Xbox, live apps (messenger, movie maker, windows 8), etc. |

Just bad experiences with GFWL in the past. Right now I am a mixed bag with the service as I am one of those 50% it works fine and 50% it has various issues. So at this point in time I avoid almost all games that use the GFWL "feature". When I think steam in itself is sufficient as is. And I haven't had a single issue with the service in the last 6 years. Opposed to GFWL. So I am sure you can see why I may be weary of anything that carries the GFWL name attached to their product.

When DIRT 2 ( Codemasters first GFWL game )went up for pre-order on Steam, there was no warning about GFWL and the unsupported country issue and it took Codemasters 2 month after release of DIRT 2 before Steam DIRT page got updated with this information. By then a lot players got screw over ( block form racing DIRT 2 online ) by GFWL! ![]() "Don't feel right buying DIRT 2 if others are getting screwed out of their hard earn dollars." GFWL stole my game Codemasters has finally seen the light and has stop using GFWL!!!! Now I can buy GRID 2 when it come out next year.
