Please HELP ME.

So, I want to play Half-life 2, but I'm having trouble with random crashes after some time of gameplay; I already sent a question to steam support, now is just wait. I'm kinda freaking okay.
Any suggestions for me to do in the free time?

You'll want to post your system specs and details.

Some computers with onboard Intel graphics chipsets cannot run Source games properly or smoothly, while others have no issue at all. So if you can, grab your system information and show us what you've got - also, describe in detail what happens and when, and if it's consistent and repeatable.

To get your system specs, head to the top of your Steam library window, and there's a HELP tab. Click that, and click on System Information. Let Steam analyze your computer. You can copy-paste the info here, and I also recommend allowing it to compare to other computers - that's for their demographics and allows the devs of things on steam to look over who's playing the games on what kind of machinery.

Post the specs here, anyway.

Well okay then.
MOBO: Intel DZ68DB
CPU: Intel Quad-Core i5 @3 Ghz
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 9600gt 512 mb @256 bits
RAM: 4 GB DDR3 @1333 Mhz
HDD: Samsung 160 GB @7200 RPM
OS: Windows 7 Professional edition - 64 bits

The problem is this: After some time of gameplay ( mostly long periods), my hl2 freeze; the screen goes green, white, or sometimes black; the sounds freezes too, and get repetitious. I can't do other thing besides restarting the computer. =/

Now, I bet my (...Nah just kidding.) that the problem is: Half-Life 2 was not made for 64 bits Operational systems.

There actually was a 64-bit version of the game released (that was recalled some time after release) to my knowledge, but that is besides the point. Half-Life 2 runs fine on my 64-bit OS, as well as the machines running 64-bit Windows owned by a number of my friends.

If you haven't, verify your game files.

Yeah it should run just fine on 64b systems, mine does and I'm using the same OS version as you.

Definitely verify the game files, and make sure that your video card and other hardware drivers are up to date. ALSO make sure that you're not using by accident an onboard graphics chip instead of your video card. Sometimes they are both checked as "to be used" by the device manager. Make sure in the device manager that only the card is in use. Also make sure any other input devices are disabled both physically and in the device manager. Just in case.

I had a GTS8800 that did the same thing. New drivers didn't help and it was very frustrating. I built a new system about a year ago and switched to and AMD HD6850 and I have not had the problem since. So either it was a bug with the GTS8800 or there was an issue with my old system. I am also using WIN7 64-bit so I know that's not a problem.

I'm also running a Geforce 9600 and have had the same problem. As it turned out the video card was over heating because of dust bunnies in the heat sink fins. I took it completely apart and gave it a good cleaning and all is well now.

ok, Thank you all guys for replying. Now, It's time to answer you
@Zekiran
Yes, I've verified the game cache files and I'm following every step that support gives me to fix the crashes. My drivers are all updated ( including windows' updates);
@Jamiemac
Hm interesting, It really could be a problem in my video card.. Good to know that your OS is 64 bits and runs fine hl2.
@TheMachine
Oh man, I don't know. I've had several heating problems with this computer, but I always cleaned it, and I even bought a exhaust fan, It really helped. But I don't have any heating problems now, with any game, like MW3, Black Ops, Portal 2, L4D2, etc. Just this crashes on hl2 and episodes

The way a Geforce 9600 is made it's really hard to clean the fins without taking off the heat sink and then the cover. I've had mine apart so many times that I finally just strapped a 4" fan on the bottom of the card and left the cover off. I've never had a problem with it since.

Good luck

My 9600 is a Point of View one, I don't know if mine has the cover you're saying. well, I'll open it up and give it a clean ( I haven't cleaned it since I got the i5..)
Thanks

Well I just cleaned it. dude, there were TONS of BLACK DUST into the "cover" of the video card, and I think the thermal was solid. I've never got that off.
And.. wish me luck, going to play HALF-LIFE 2 HELL YEA \m/

Yea, got the same f**king freeze. almost uninstalling it.
